co-codamol question

i just have a quick question which may or may not be relevant to me but i was reading a post when someone mentioned they didn't want to use co-codamol as they didnt want to put up with the side effects...?
have different people experienced similar side effects on co-codamol? ive just been put on them and apart from feeling bloody tired, ive not noticed anything yet...
is it a 'each person is different' thing?
cheers x

hi dippydodah
i think like most tablets they affect everyone differently, i take co dydromol and am fine with them but if my mate uses them she is spaced out and rough as hell so its down to how your body responds i think. just keep a note and if you do have problems see your dr, hopefully they will work for you and be fine.

hi, i work in a dispensery and we have a lot of complaints about co-codamol and its side effects etc, it does affect people differently but the most complaints we have is constipation but that can be controlled with lactulose, senokot etc, also they can space you out, they do me so dont take them, the main concern at the moment tho is that they can be addictive, there is now warnings on the boxes that addiction can occur if used for more then 3 days, but every one is different and can tolerate different pain meds, its finding one or two that suit us i think, lucy x0

Co-codamol deadens my pain and bungs me up. I don't mind the second as it's the price I have to pay for the first, which is of far more value. YOu won't know how it works for you unless you try it. On good days (ie when the pain is tolerable) I don't take any - I haven't had them today so far, I took two last night at 6pm. I might take two tonight at bedtime, but I'll sit and think first, something along the lines of 'Is the pain bad enough to justify them?' At the moment the answer would be 'No.' Yes, I hurt, but I can manage with it. Pain killers do not 'kill' pain, that phrase is such a misnomer. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

HI Dippydoodah,
I agree with the posts above. It depends on the dose. Take the lowest dose you need to give relief. Too high a dose used to turn me into zombie, so I kept that dose for night. The higher the dose the more likely you are to have constipation. If you are only having 1 co-codomol (500mg of paracetomol) then you can take one paracetomol as well - discuss it with pharmacist/GP.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Dippydoodah (am lovin your username there
)
Can't add more to the good advise here, but yes I tend to use mine as little as poss. They can make you a bit spaced out if you not used to them and the doc did warn about constipation, but I haven't yet!! taken them at the full dose so have been fine. I find the anti-inflamms keep me going most days. Do discuss any side effects with your GP, we all reacte a little differently but I hope they help you.
take care

thank you everyone, i appreciate you taking the time to reply and some of the side affects are proving right. i am a little constipated  but comparing that to the pain its something im willing to deal with.
other than feeling really tired and ready to drop at any time, i find them to help with the pain which according to my husband 'as long as they are helping and not causing me too much upset, surely its a good thing' and i agree.
i dont mind the 'tired' part as he is fantastic and lets me sleep when i need it plus the boys are back in school so its easier to rest during the day when needed.
im due to see the rheummy for my review appointment on tuesday anyway so im sure i can bare (?) with it till then....
thank you for your replies, i do appreciate them and they do help me , you're a great bunch of people xxx0 -
Hi Dippy,
Sorry, I think it was my post that you saw. Just to give you abit more info I can take 2 x 30/500mg co-codamol and taking the full whack leaves me feeling very spaced out, lightheaded, nausios and incredibly tired. I have fallen asleep while trying ot eat my dinner in the past. I didn't do the classic todler trip though of landing face first in my foodI also suffer withdraw headaches so if I take them for a few days then stop I can guarantee I will wake up with a headache the following day.
The key for me is to take as little as possible, I normally take just one 30mg tablet and that keeps the pain to a manageable level and the side effects bearable so I can still function. I spoke to my GP about them and his plan is to get a good anti inflammatory so I don;t need the pain relief so much, prevention is better than cure and all that.
I hope you continue to find them not too obnoxious and I haven;t caused too much angst.

no not at all, ive been having 'loo' problems the last week or so and didn't think much of it but its only been the last week or so that ive been on these tabs but like some have said, if its a choice between the pain and the side effects, in this case i'll cope with the side effects. im taking cod liver oil anyway and to be honest, the little nap in the afternoon is a welcome treat. sets me up ready for when the little ones come home from school
thank you though, i appreciate your comments and hope you're feeling ok and not suffering too much this evening x0
