I know what you mean about the ring: I haven't worn my wedding ring for ages as my hands keep swelling and I don't want it to get stuck! I remember my aunt having hers cut off - I don't want that to happen.
I'm sorry you are feeling low at the moment - are you taking all the pain relief you can? Pain killers never actually kill the pain - the b***er still keeps coming back! - but they do dull the edge. It will take time to get used to it, but one does adjust gradually. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi I used to wear my Mum's ring as well as my own, but now I can only wear my own. A couple of months ago I had them both on and my finger was feeling strange and I looked down and it was discoloured around the ring, I used soap, cream, and then stuck my hand in cold water for about 10 mins and dried it and creamed it and the ring came off ahhhhh the relief! I didn't want it cut off, so I leave it in draw now. Sad, but better than having to distroy it, as it feels very special to me. Love Sue0

Sorry to hear you are feeling down, we all have these days from time to time, it's not nice and not easy to pull yourself back up but "chatting" on here does help as people understand. With regard to over doing things, I think we're all guilty of that, we don't feel too bad so go and do things and then pay the price, I think the reason is because we get so fed up having to pace ourselves and being unable to do certain things that when we are having a good day we go too mad. It is very frustrating and hard to come to terms with and no matter how long you've been diagnosed it still happens. But don't worry we're all in the same boat and are here to offer support. I find the thing that cheers me up is getting comfy on the sofa and watching bad tv programmes (they're so bad they make me laugh) and reading all the celebrity gossip magazines, they don't know how easy they have it, private healthcare and rehab, they should try living in the real world with a REAL illness. The soap gossip mags make me laugh as well, you just need to find something that works for you. Sorry to ramble on, I hope this helps in some way.
Hoping you feel better soon, love Sue x0 -
Hi tillypink
sorry that you feel so down today.
I know it isn't the same but could you not wear your ring on a chain until your finger returns to its normal size. Atleast you can then still wear it.
Hope you feel better soon.

I echo everyone else's comments. I've had a patch of being down and it is very hard to get through it sometimes. A good moan on here is as good a way as any!
Hope you feel better soon.

hey tilly, sorry to hear your still in pain from your weekend away. like the others have said, we all done it some time or other and i guess its a learning process of what we can and can't get away with.
its great that your partner is there for you, having support like that really helps. ive worn my rings around my neck before now, in the earlier stages, but my swellings went down and i put them back on... now i cant get them off! my fingers have swollen up so much and my knuckles are so deformed, theres not a cat in hells chance of getting 'em off (which my hubby jokingly said at least it'll always show im married and stop fellas chatting me up! )
i hope your pains start to settle down soon for you and take any rest you can and let your partner spoil you a little x0 -
Hi Lisa
Sorry that you have had a worsening of your symptoms. It could be that you've overdone it.
Have you had x-rays done? Did the doctor give you any indication of how 'bad' the hip was and if you would need a hip replacement in the future? (Sorry if you've said this in previous messages ..)

Hi Tillypink, does sound like you have overdone it (so easy to do) I think Juliepf's suggestion is a good compromise until your finger swelling goes down (hang the ring on a chain) it will be safe and with you and on show. Rest up and let your body recover.
What is the weather like? That could be aggravating your hip too.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Tillypink!
What are we all like on here?
The minute we get a bit of relief of have a good day we go full steam ahead doing lots of stuff like we have conquered it and it wont come back! ...Then we pay for it!
We should get someone to chart the times we feel up or down cos lots of people seem to be down lately! and my down times seem to occur at the same time each year
We will try to keep you perked up!!! so keep with us!!!
The rings...well not been able to wear some of my special rings for ages.....and feel quite bare without them.....so I found several similar in Acce**or **se or D.Ps & N*xt ..etc. buy the large or Xlarge size and were those for the time being.
also
..... Can not stress how much TENS machine helps my hands too!
Chin up Tilly!

I always find I overdo it on a good day well any day usually.I find that after a day out or just a bit of shopping my whole leg hurts.Just have to rest until the next time.Just a little question If you have an operetion do you have to take off your wedding ring Mine's been on for 42 years so if it has I'd better make a start on it :?:0
-
No you dont have to take your wedding ring off for an operation....some docs might tell you that you do but I had an epidural with my first birth, caesarean [sp???} and they were going to take it off and I said no had a bit of a fight with him and told him to tape it up.....The response I got was "nuses make the worse patients" LOL LOL but he taped it.
When I had my THR in Feb it wasnt even suggested.
Hope this helps
Love

Hi tillypink!
I am new to the site but I too have very swollen fingers. I haven't worn my wedding ring for years. I did have it made bigger and that worked for a while. Any ring that I buy now is 2-3 times bigger lol. Then it allows for everyday swelling. I also buy adjustable watches as my wrists are always swollen.
I was really low yesterday and everyone has been so nice, I feel so much better today.
Bye for now and chin up

Hi Tilly,
Hope the swellings are still going down for you. I really miss my rings too.
I hope this is just a blip for you and you will be able to get your ring back on this weekend. Maybe just leave it off overnights.
Hugs anyway,
Lv, Ix0
