Ello folks ,
I haven't been here for a while, but I'm heading into hospital for a shoulder replacement in the next couple of weeks and thought I'd pop in and ask if anyone here has had the same? or any experience with such an op?
I hear it's a painful op, but then I guess that's all relative eh.
I hope everyone is muddling along ok. Swearing like a docker helps I find.. haha. If anyone wants swearing lessons ... I'm very good
Be good
Chris

HI Chris
not sure I can help re the op but wanted to wish you well, and let you know that i'll be thinking of you and hoping that all goes well for you.
Sometimes we can put up with more pain if there is a gain to be had ... I do hope that whatever additional pain there is comes with great benefits to you in the future.
good luck!
WONky
PS - didn't I see a report recently that said that somehow swearing has been proved to help with pain  so you're doing the right thing0 -
Hi Chris
I haven't had a shoulder replacement op but I do remember someone talking about it on the forum previously... sorry  mind's going along with the joints!
It's a lot to contemplate but the results hopefully will be a pain free shoulder? good trade I'd say.
No comparison but I recently had a wrist replacement, which is a relatively new op, and the difference is dramatic... pain before and immediately after the op? yes... pain now? none at all. so I hope it's be the same for you.
Have you got an advanced certificate in swearing?
....all those hours of practice...had to come in useful some time!
Iris xx
ps... let us know the date of your op so we can keep you company!0 -
Hi Chalky
Good luck with the shoulder operation. I've been having trouble with my shoulder/arm for the past few years and finally I'm seeing the specialist on 26 October. What are your symptoms? Interested to hear if they're similar to mine. I can't lift my arm; it hurts if I lift anything too heavy; it's very tender to touch' I can't bend it back; I can't raise it very high and when it's really bad even my collar bone aches. Now the other arm has started to go.
Sorry I can't help with your other questions but I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly for you.
With regards
Sharmaine

I cannot help with the shoulder thing at all, but I do wish you well for that and I hope it really helps. I do like the 'ouch hurty hurty dang!' however - please may I use that too? It's very expressive! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Chalky
Had an op on shoulder( not a replacement, merely cut some bone away) I received a peripheral nerve block and had almost no pain until it was removed. Hope the op goes well and keep up the swearing as its very therapeutic.

Hi Chris, sorry I have no experience of a shoulder replacement, but if it is anything like a hip replacement, then as soon as you start healing you should be a lot better off. Wishing you all the best for your op, looking forward to post op updates.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Chris
Just calling in to say hello and I hope someone can advise on the shoulder op for you. Do hope it goes well for you and that you have a good recovery and if the swearing helps, go for it!! I work part time in a factory and hear things that might even make you blush. Keep in touch and let us send morale support if we can.
take care

Morning Folks ,
Thanks so much for all your messages of support, you're all such nice people Yes the doc tells me that shoulder ops are really quite successful and I should be pain free after a while. So that'll be good. It's the 'more movement' I'm looking forward to more though I think. my shoulder is very stiff and restricted in that department.
Now I'm in this 'reply' page I can't see who asked what question :? but..
my symptoms are mainly pain, lack of movement and creaky cracky noises when move my arm. And that I've had xrays that show my shoulder joint is damaged quite badly.
Yes, I have a Diploma in swearing.. and plan on further studies to gain my PHD in cussability
No 'ouch hurty hurty dang' is not trademarked so feel free to use it where ever you see fit heheee...
But seriously, my hand op last year was very successful thanks, my fingers are pretty straight now... and a hundred times better than they were. My shoulder doesn't effect my painting that much really, although it is my left shoulder and i am left handed. I'll be out of painting action for a good few weeks after the op of course, but hopefully I'll be chucking paint about like Rolf after that
If anyone would like to see my paintings just google 'chris chalk art'. I dont want to put a link on here or I might get into trouble.
I'll let you all know how my op goes, I'm sure it'll be fine.
Thanks again, Dr Dang0 -
You're so lucky, I have two painful shoulders and all I get is, 'there're worn out, go and get some painkillers off your GP!'
Go with the bit of pain for a while, at least its not on going.

Hey Chris! you're really talented. WoW
only thing was....... I expected in your own pic to see a 'talk bubble' coming out of your mouth with the 'hurty hurty, dang' coming out!
lovely work though.

Thanks very much Iris, I'm glad you like my art. I find it's great for taking my mind off of my arthritis. Even the pain seems less when I'm engrossed in what I'm painting.
Thanks again all for your best wishes.
