Am I panicking ? In the advice booklet it says to contact your GP if you have a dry cough - I just feel as though I have a niggly dry cough today, it's not causing me great bother though and I don't want to appear to be neurotic, however, I can feel it there and feel as though I need to keep drinking water.

I have been taking this for 8 weeks now and not had a dry cough before, am I being a bit paranoid do you think ?

Forgot to add - took metho last night - 12.5mg

See how long it lasts. If it lasts longer than a few days go to the doctors ans see what they say.

When I took MTX the first time around I had to come off it due to cough, but I'd had my cough for going 3 months with no other cause. Since restarting MTX twice I've had no problems with cough.

Wine gums are good for lubricating a dry throat, try sucking one or two of them. I was told that if a cough lasted longer than a week, then to contact my hospital. So far, I've never had to. Keep an eye on it (?!) and if it worsens or doesn't improve then contact someone. DD

Ah great - thanks so much. I'm probably panicking over nothing and it will be gone by tomorrow !

DD- will try the wine gums, any excuse for a few extra calories in the sweet dept !

    Hi Pols

I get a dry/tickly cough because of methotrexate sometimes too..

It just comes on out of the blue and then just disappears out to the blue too!!

It's worse if I'm in an air conditioned environment (eg if I have my car air-con on).

I find sipping water helps, but might try the wine gums too if I get it again..

They do work as they are so - what's the word? - gloopy. That'll do! I keep some in the car and some by my bed. They do work, as long as you suck, not chew - which is what I do with the orange ones! DD

Thanks again for the replies. This morning I have woken feeling as though a cold is coming on so perhaps that's what it is, the dry cough has subsided slightly today, however, I will keep an eye on things.

On a plus note, no joint pains and little stiffness today so can't complain :)

    Hi Pols,

When I first started taking MTX I got a sore throat pretty soon after the first few weeks. I went to the Drs to make sure and got antibiotics. Since then I've had more ulcers which I never really get usually.
The thing is that as MTX is a disease modifier it breaks down your immune system too, which is why we take the colic acid too.

What I'm trying to say is if you're at all concern, go see your GP. At the end of the day it's better to be cautious and Drsare there to help.
You know your own body and if you are a bit worried, get yourself checked out!

    Hope it clears up soon!

    Cheers,

    Si

I have a cold at the moment so am going to miss out on my Methotrexate tomorrowe and start again next week.

I have also noticed much less pain when I am ill. When I had a sickness bug I was worried about how I would cope getting to the loo when I was in so much pain and had trouble standing up from the bed. However i had no problems at all.
I have noticed this on many occassions when I have had some sort of bug and reckon our bodies are too busy fighting the bug to attack our healthy joints!
