Hi All
Well the day of reckoning has come and off me and dad went off to Wrightington for my 2nd opinion in the wet n windy 13 Sept 2010...
We got there quickly, got parked and got sent for x-ray.....I was struck by how much smaller it looked in the flesh, very quaint, all low celings and sort of informal....
at this point my clinic was 1hr behind after having had x-ray and they asked me had I had TKR??? Which of course i havent and notes were dully ammended, silly poisitions on x-ray table posed, clinic was running 1.30hrs behind, my app was 11.30......Anyway got taken at 12.45 and saw my new consultant, he asked how long had condition, when last had surgery, how far i could walk, did knee collapse, lock? He examined me and i showed him where my pain was worst which was medial and underneath kneecap (sorry never remember that one)......
He said he would need to get precise notes of my arthoscopy in march off old consultant (he hadnt passed these on which i was a litle taken aback by) but he said a half knee may be of benefit.....Now my old consultant had tried to get me to have kneecap removed, i got feedback on here and decided it wasnt a good decision, he offered me no reaosns why i should or should not have this done......Im so glad as today asked new consultant and he was really empathic that this would in no way help me or allevaite pain, no way, no, never!!!! So Mr Man at WGH (see i was right - tongue out, raspberry)......I am seeing him in about 2 months time to confirm if this is best course of action to take but he was so receptive, treated me as an individual......Didnt criticise my weight, described me as slightly overweight which is kind but not an obstacle......Everything WGH man wasnt.........He doesnt actually do half knees but he would refer me to collague who would.....
One downside was useless DWP told me could claim for travel expenses, surprise surprise, they told me wrong info even though i rang up when got app.......
Only got in at 14.30pm, me and dad dog tired, he is nearly sleeping and Sol the beany frog is out for the count.....
Thanks to all pocket dwellers, hope you didnt get too wet in there as its been cats n dogs here all day........
A good outcome id say and maybe back on track for a solution...

Hi Elaine
That is brilliant news. I can uncross everything now, bet you are sooo glad to be home.
You can stop all the worrying now, what a difference it will make to you, after waiting all this time.
Wonder when they will do the op, but anyway you are now half way there.
Thanks for the update, we did do a thread for you , to wish you good luck.

Hi Elaine
Glad your appointment went well and that you got the opinion you need. Hope you get to see new surgeon soon with a view to your half knee op.

Hi elaine
I heard from Sol - he is shattered! He was happy though as you must be after it all.
Yes a long and stressful day, but a good outcome.
Bet you feel way better now just by being treated with respect. After all this is YOUR body
You rest up now and get your head round it all
Love

Fabtastic, Elaine
One is entitled to a second opinion if not happy with the first, so thank goodness you did see another consultant.
Although you are tired, I bet you are smiley

sounds like you've had a very pleasant experience with your new consultant, im pleased you came away feeling better and that he listened to you.
glad you had an informative appointment x0 -
Hi Elaine
Glad things went ok despite the delays and horrid weather.
My kneecap was left after my TKR apparently they don't like moving them.
I didn't know they could do half knee replacements - interesting.

Hi Coco
Thanks and im happier too, would say to anyone now always seek a 2nd opinion.

Hi Elaine,
well that sounds a more positive experience.
I had not heard of a partial/half knee replacement before. Did the ortho explain why this was a better option for you? Did he give any indication of when your next appointment would be?
Looks like persistance is paying off, well done.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Barbara
Well its just refreshing to have someone listen to you and not feel as if you are wasting their time...Im sure my old consultant just wanted rid of me and thought i wouldnt question his choice of treatment.....
Its not cast in iron they will do my op but its positive vibes and its someone considering me...
Thanks a lot...

Hi Iris
Thanks for congratulatory ugs!!!The new consultant was lovely, and professional and he was positive about treatment not dismissive.....
If I could dance myself I would but im just happy to be treated correctly now and so glad never got kneecap removed.....
Thanks for all your good luck n support...
Elainex0 -
Hi Fayann
Well yes it did go well and youre right, a plan of action is in place and not just a plan to get rid of me.....
Happy...
Elainex0 -
HI NB
Yes its so nice to meet someone who is positive about me and not negative, telling me im too young.........It just shows different opinions create different actions and better vibes to patients....
Elainex0 -
HI Toni
Sol is shattered, bless his froggy legs......he was in car so long he thought we had gotten admitted on spot....
Tiring but good day youre spot on, back to being treated as a person and not a mere annoyance....
Getting early night in tonght and stop worrying a bit now....

Hi Sharmaine
Well mine is damaged more on medial side etc so think it may be if have no damage on other side could be good....Think diferent surgeons have diferent opinions and im thankful for that.........
Things are on up...
Elainex0 -
Hi Speedy
Yes it was positive......I have heard or partial, previous man refused to discuss this with me period........Its cos my damaged is mostly on medial side (he is gettting fruther info from arthroscopy to double check).........My next app should be in 2 months approx...
Im happy i pushed for 2nd opinion...
