My neighbour came up with an answer

I had a rough day yesterday with pain. It is as a result of three things, I think: I overdid things a little at the week-end, with too much sitting down, I have reduced my pred intake (always a silly idea) and I have PA - :D Anyway, I had some letters to post, si I gritted my teeth and girded my loins and went off to the post box, which is within sight of the house. On the return leg of the journey (and in the midst of a full pred-sweat) I bumped into a neghbour, who isn't about that often as she works long hours in London. She is gorgeous to look at - tall, willow-slender, raven-haired and her trademark is bright red stiletto heels, taking her to about 6' in height.

We said hello and she helpfully pointed out that I wasn't walking too well, which I thought was kind because I honestly hadn't realised :D and I explained that the pain was bad. She asked me what it felt like - and isn't that the killer question? How does one explain pain? I fell back on my tried-and-tested explanation whcih is that it feels like toothache in every joint. She suggested in reply that I should visit the dentist.

Is that where I have been going wrong? Never mind rheumatology, I'm off to see my dentist! I don't know what she does in London, but I sincerely hope it isn't medical. DD

No, I just looked at those with longing! Such extravagant shoes for a dull Monday afternoon - they must make one feel better about things! DD

Hi DD,not been able to wear nice shoes is one of my hatreds about this awful arther, she sounds like a person I met who said having arthritis is just a few aches and pains!!Didn't stab them as no knife handy.MM

Not quite sure you girls need those high heels but I know what you mean with shoes, I wear big trainer type ones with lots of foam inside and I get really fed up with them.

Mind you I live near a path and see lots of walkers and I always think 'I could do that!' I watch sports and think, 'If only'. I think of many things and want to take part and get more frustrated.

So girls, don't watch/think/ about shoes or imagine yourselves wearing posh shoes, there must be more to life?

    8) Its a grin, honest!

Oh DD what a let down..... just when it sounded as though your neighbour was actually interested she goes and makes such a stupid remark.... funny and furious for you in equal measure. :x

.... if only I'd know about the dentist 'cure all' sooner....I was there this morn and all he did was tell me I have a large ulcer in the roof of my mouth (didn't I know that  ) probably caused by the new drug... he says..... and he referred me for a 'polish'.

I feel cheated now.... he could at least have removed and replaced my half chewed knee.. :lol::lol::lol::lol:

thanks DD nice to know that the world is still normal ie....full of idiots!

I think she asked out of politeness, as we know people do, then just phased out, as we know people do, then homed in again on 'toothache' then phased again - and so it goes on. I can now see the funny side but yesterday - well, no. The PASO is clanging away, a whole symphony orchestra but all playing different music. Yesterday they were tuning up, today they are at it, hammer and tongs. :( Never mind, eh? It will pass, all things do. DD

    Hi DD,

well that story didn't end like I thought it was going to - what a silly thing to say. I think you are right about only half listening.

Reminds me of a deputy head years ago (when first hip was awaiting it's op.) She always put on an act and would ask things like how are we today ?.. but not really be interested in the answer. One morning I limped in to school on my crutches and as usual she was hogging the photocopier (she loved worksheets.) In an over bright voice she asked me how I was this morning. I facetiously replied something ridiculous (can't remember what ... but something in line with my leg falling off and I stuck it back on with cellotape or my sister had given birth to kittens .. that kind of thing) and she replied, "how lovely ... " having not listened to a word. If people aren't interested, I'd rather they just said, "Morning" and made a comment about the weather ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Oh my goodness what planet is she on? She must have her head in the clouds quite literally with those heels on.

Am amused and annoyed that she didn't bother to listen to you properly.....

I look forward to the next instalment when you see her next!
