hello all

what do you take if you have a cold or flu?

i cant get the flu jab as its only certain people that can get it, and i dont fall into one of those groups, i know it wont do anything about how i feeling now, but is it as i been told that only people who are diabetic and have asthma that get it?

    Keep the fluids going....I like honey and lemon drink....no [aracetamol since I take that anyway....Just mug of hot water, dollop of honey in it and add a squeeze of lemon {from bottle, squeezy lemon or whatever you have}

Sylvia, Dan has a cold... I call it the September back to school cold. Now my other son who gets 100% attendance certificates has gone down with it and so have I. Change in the weather doesnt help.

I had a flu jab and swine flu jab last year so maybe it has now worn off.

    Best wishes
    Elizabeth

    Ooohhh Sylvia... poor you!

..and poor Elizabeth and Toni's boys too. :(

Not much to add about what to take... don't really think anything will speed it up and send it packing!

what's been said is what I do too.... taking paracetamol and lots of warm drinks ...and letting it run it's course.

not much fun though when lots in the family go down with it at the same time. :? and I can guess who'll be doing the running after everyone else!

school is definitely the culprit when it comes to infections..

hope the dreaded 'lurgy' passes for all of you really soon,

    Hi there

If your Dr knows you have D to look after and basically cant be sick then he can give you the flu jab if you ask nicely.

I personally swear by lemon tea with demerara sugar for the cold. Was told this "old wives tale" many years ago and out of sheer frustration when I could not get rid of a cold I tried it. It works for me. So give it a try. Nothing to interfere with your medication and a ten minute rest while you drink your tea, cant be bad.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Regards

I think I'm right in remembering that you have OA only49, so I think it would be OK for you to take zinc tablets: they boost the immune system and help you fight off infections more quickly. Vitamin C is good too - I develop a longing for fresh oranges when I catch a cold, which, despite seeing children from seven different schools, is mercifully rare. I hope you, and tkachev's children feel better soon. DD

    Hi Sylvia
You ask your gp for the flu jab, they usually have some left over, so go and ask now then they have your name.
I do hope you feel better soon, like you say back to school, bringing home the bugs.
    Love and hugs ((((((()))))

my husband gets a flu jab because he is living with someone who is on immunosuppressant meds.

I know people who are given the flu jab because they are sole carers for vulnerable people, so perhaps it would be worth asking at your surgery for info.

if you never ask you'll never know
