After a year and 4 months struggling on with a bent leg, i am now going to have another op next month. Same as last time just to see whats going on and if anything is stopping my leg from straightening. I think its just 2 little, 2 late. I want to stay positive but not sure what will happen. Ive had a year off work, then gone back for 4 months, now will be going off again :-(.

Hi Claire,
Sorry you are feeling like that.....it may not be too little too late {I dont know the details} I know I'm going for my 2nd THR in a few weeks time. At one stage I wanted to cancel it but it has gradually got worse so have decided it will be the best thing

hi Claire,
i completely agree with Hileena, it may not be too little too late and they might be able to sort it for you. hang in there and hopefully it will help you. sending a cyber hug and hopes it all goes well for you. Cris x

Hi claire
what is the surgeon saying that he wants to do? is it an arthroscopy or something else? maybe your feeling so reluctant to have surgery as the surgeon hasn't spent enough time with you going over the detail of the op and what he is hoping to achieve. Might a chat with your GP help?
you've been suffering with this leg for a long time and from what you've said want something to be done to help you..
Having time off work I know is not what you would want.... but your health has to come first flower. what are your employers like? are they supportive? they will have noticed the pain you have day to day so being told that you need another op might not be such a big surprise to them.
I do hope that whatever is decided that you regain your mobility.... then it all be well worth it.
(((hugs)))

Hi Clair
what if it's NOt too little too late, but only just in time
I think as Doprcas says you and your health have to come before work.
Think about it and ask your family what they think, but if I were you I think I would be tempted to give the op a try?

Hi
I really hope that this op helps, and makes life easier for you.
With regards to work, I understand how you feel about having more time off (I am going through that dilemma now too). But as I have been told on here, you need to put yourself first, and work will have to be understanding of that.
Take care

Hey guys, thanks for the positive comments. Work are ok with it i just feel bad for the fact il be going off sick again! I know sooner or later im gonna end up changing jobs as its just to hard the line of work im in!
It will just be an arthroscopy again, see if theres anything obstructing allowing my knee to straighten, move the scar tissue, hopefully give it a shove to straighten it, then possibly put a serial splint on it! It sounds painful, it was hell last tym so am thinking it will be worse this tym if they do that. He said he cant guarantee it will work, and i will get anything out of it, but i think a shud try it anyway, gp's r useless, i hardly eva go unless im literally dying! I'll be fine lol.0 -

Yeah i have decided, i had 2 secs t decide lol. Wasnt waiting months to see him again, i just said there and then when i had my appointment, but on reflection i just started to wonder if id made the right decision.. But then i coulda said no, n carried on with a bent leg and getting nowhere, id be wondering what if, so i guess its better i do have it done! x0 -
Hi Claire, prior to the first op was your knee unable to straigthen or has this problem come on since the op?
I think though, you can't go on as you are - so you need to give this a try. Having more time off work is not ideal but nor do you want to be struggling with a bent leg for ever. Did the ortho say when they would do the op? If it doesn't work would they do a TKR?
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -

Hey Speedy,
Nah, tiz just after the op,it was fine beofre! i had serious physio, constant, attended evri session n it just wouldn't straighten, kep getting discharged, then went back, discharged again!etc.
The date is 20th oct! A rheumy mentioned a replacement once but no one else has mentioned it, i reckon it will be an option in the future to0 -
Hi Claire, if this problem came from the first op, then it does sound like it needs another op to put it right. You gave physio your best shot. I really hope this op sorts it out. If it can't straighten there must be a physical reason which needs correcting ... I can't see why the consultant said it might or might not work ... Roll on 20th October.

Hi
I was off for just under 12 months before and after my THR, then went back for 8 months. I then had 7 weeks off after gynae surgery, and had been back for 4 months before my hip dislocated 2 weeks ago! Have been signed off for another 6 weeks, then will have to see if ok to go back, and if I can i will probably need adjustments due to advice given by surgeon last week.
I`m glad work are being understanding with you.
