Hi, Well backfrom my appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon.
It was a bit of a mixture but fairly positive.
I told him how sore I had been for the past 8 or 9 days on my unoperated side......He put pressure on it and asked if that hurt and i said no but pressure actually eased the pain....eg sitting oin the car with a cushion tucked between me and the door....as a passenger not the driver LOL
I mentioned the crutches and he said no....I want you to use those muscles as much as poss....not him that has the pain.....just use one stick. {I had one in with me}
He then said i want you to go for an MRI, and I want a blood test to see if you have any other kind of arthritis...thats the first time that has been mentioned.
He then said "be warned that the THR might be delayed".....WHY?? "because i think this is coming from your back more than your hip and if thats the case then we treat the back first then the hip".....didnt find out what trea was LOL
How long have any of you had to wait for an MRI?????? I've usually had to wait a few months.
I went to the x ray dept and se faxed someone and they spoke to me on the phone and said they could see me on Monday at Hexha {local hospital} or earlier somewhere else????
Well going to York for a day out tomorrow, Hospital appointment [pre op assessment } on Thurs so Monday is fine......Never heard of having one so quick. I've got to ring his secretary as soon as i have it and then he will make another appt to see me.
Well think thats it
Oh yes...thought i had got out of having MRI's got a plate, screws and pins in my ankle but he says no its oK its long enough ago!!!! Oh Well!!!! I suppose they are good....after they are over LOL

Hi Hileena,
That is a bit of a mixed bag. Its good he is being so thorough with you. I think the scan might be cus someone cancelled? Well done though for getting one so soon.......
I think he is just making sure you haven't got another type of arthritis as they often do seem to go hand in hand.
Does that mean Your not having the thr now? Its a bit confusing and I couldn't quiet hear what he said as I had the sheep on my lap in your pocket She is sorry she baaed by the way....
I hope your scan will hep him to decide what to do next but its good he is so thorough really. Sending a ((( ))) and we are always up fr pocket duties. Cris xx0 -
Hi Hileena
some surprises there  but as Cris said he is being very thorough and it's as well to know if it's your back that's causing you probs..... but I hope not flower as it'll delay the THR... did I pick that up right?
It's amazing how quick you can get an MRI... if the surgeon orders it to be done that is :!: and he's trying to get things seen and discussed with you before the op date...I think?
I hope you don't have any other Mr Nasty Arther's hiding!!! but if you have at least you're going to get the right treatment.
Love n ((((hugs))) and more pocket duty of course.
I've got wool in my ears and crumbs in places where they don't belong

Hi Hileena, that was all rather unexpected then wasn't it... Great that you don't have to wait long for an MRI. Think Cris is right it might be a cancellation. S and I have never waited long for them .. our local hospitals seem to run them day and night to keep queues down!!
Hope it is just OA and that op goes ahead as planned. At least he hasn't cancelled pre-op appointment ...
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi.....Sorry you didnt hear what was said Chris....LOL MIGHT have to cancel it or delay it because he thinks its my back???
Speedy.....I dont know about a cancellation...because they said they could mnake an earlier MRI if I travelled a bit further....anyway its great not having to wait. I've got to ring his secretary as soon as I have it and then he will make an appointment to see me and let me know the results and what is the next move.

Hello hileena,
I'm a hippy person too & had my right one done last October. I wonder if its cos of your first one being done has affected the way you walk & stand etc so your back has taken the brunt. I am having lots of creaking & pain in my unoperated side too now and wonder if thats why.

Hi Pennie
Were you due to have or did you have both done...apparently one was as bad as the other and its only going to be 8 months betweent the 2 ops......it could be the way I'm walking because of the first one being done and the 2nd one not yet....see what he MRI saysd

Hi Hileena
Well that was odd wasn't it? Where does it hurt? It's not bursitis is it? that sort of behind your hip bum cheek side....? That comes from pressure on the bursa caused by amongst other things, walking oddly.
They have really speeded up mRIs and i for one am really pleased for you taht it is soon
Will be right there with you.

Hi Hileena
Wow what a strange appointment, 1 step nearer 1 step back, what a good consultant you seem to have, I have mentioned to mine, that I worry if I have my hips replaced, that my pain wont be eased because of my back, he just says its a chance I should take.
I am glad you are having the scan, then hopefully you know where you stand.
Good luck with everything

Hi
Dont know about bursitis but since I had the first THR I've been sore on both sides {more ache than pain} and put it down to putting all my weight on my good leg.
Recently....about 10 days ago....the unoperated side seemed to "go" and has been really sore {not an ache def pain} above my cheek, about the bone on your hip/side whatever...goes slightly round onto my back. I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower spine at the same time as arthritis in my hips but it hasnt been mentioned until today.
He's excellent......we have consultants and they work in 2 hospitals on the same area. When I was having my group physiotherapy before my first THR was told he didnt do fast track ops....but he sent me away with a pack and dvd about fast track operations. So I rang his secretary....she said he does his own version of fast track..I asked what that was....she said she wasnt sure but would e.mail him...That day got a call back from her to say i was to attend his clinic in a couple of days time and make sure i saw him and he would answer all my questions. He sat and listened and answered all my questions....ever since that when I go he says..."wheres your notebook with the questions LOL"

Oh, he sounds amazing! My consultant has absolutely terrible bedside manner but he only looks about 16 so I guess that comes with experience!
My complication after my op was a leg length difference of just over an inch so walking is very difficult. At first consultant said there was only a 1 & half centimetre diff but got found out when was measured for an orthosis for my left shoe it is more more. I try & wear the insert in my trainer all the time but sometimes at home esp first getting out of bed you just want to go bare foot. I still need stick too cos of arthritic knee so I'm sure all these things add up don't you?

* sorry much more!0

Well he sounds as if he's on the ball which is great.
As you say not much you can do until the results come back.
Hope everything comes clearer over the next week or so,

Hi Hileena
You wrote me lovely answers to my posts and sent me good luck too so I thought would return the compliment.....
Am I correct in thinking this is your 2nd THR? I think i did read that but if im wrong (SLAP)....When is it you get your op?
I just wanted to say that me n Sol will quite happily sign up for pocket duty when we know some dates and Sol has said he will send big croaks to you of froggy luck when you go in for your op....
Bet you ain had a reply from a Beany Frog before eh? Oh well......LOL!

Hi
Sorry I've been away all day today......a trip to York.
7.40pm and I'm just catching up with posts LOL
Elaine....thanks for you good wishes {everyone else as well of course} just to answer Elaines question....Yes i had my first THR Beginning of Feb and this one {if it happens} is due 8th October..just 8 months between them.
I did forget one thing about the appointment.....as a lot of you know I havent slept since my first THR ....not managed a full night....kept waking up 4 and 5 times with pain and they tried various things codein at night, tramadol at night.....not until I was prescribed diclofenic modified release.....dose 75.......at about 9pm did it help.....Still not great but much better. The consultant said....ring your doc and tell him you dont want that.....you want 50 x 2 a day.....whats the point in having a reasonable sleep but being in pain during the day. Take one at 9pm and one at 9am and that should see you through the 24 hours. So left that message at the surgery.....picked them up today. Still having 75 tonight then 50 x 2 a day from the morning onwards. So we'll see how that goes.
