Hi everyone

Oh what a horrible day I have had :(
I have spent all afternoon crying & feeling sorry for myself. When I came in from work I was in so much pain.I had physio yesterday & I am feeling it today.
Im fed up & my hubby says I should have some time off sick, but I cant help but feel that I would be letting people down.
Should I feel guilty for being ill???

Hi TJC - I am so sorry you have had such a horrible day and that you are struggling so miuch at the moment.

You absolutely should not feel guilty about being ill (easier said that done I know!) and there comes a time when you have to do what's right for you - rather than what you think others expect of you. It may be that, by taking some time off sick and using it to rest physically as much as you possibly can, you will find that you are better able to cope with your work anyway - so work would be benefitting too. From your post it sounds as if your hubby can see how much you are struggling and he too is obviously concerned about you.

I know how hard it is when you feel you are letting everyone down -and that the worry doesn't help matters but I really hope you do feel you can take the time you so obviously need TJC.

    Thinking of you.

    Hi TJC,

There are times that we need to rest and catch up with ourselves.
When we are in pain we cannot think clearly and then tiredness takes over and makes the smallest decisions difficult.
So yes, if you can take some time off and recharge then do so. Without guilt. :|

if you are not well you will not be working to your full ability and if you have bit of time off now you will be much better when you go back phone physio and explain how you feel and ask there advice they usually give sound advice val

    hi

I have to second what val said, if you not feeling 100% then you are not working to you full ability as your thinking more of trying to get yourself feeling better, dont feel guilty for taking time off im sure they will appreciate you back and better once you've yaken some you time

    hope you feeling better soon

It's a vicious circle. You feel grotty, you go to work because you are conscientious, do the best you can, come home and feel worse because you have been to work because you are conscientious. It does sound as tho you need a break: people cannot help being ill, I wouldn't mind betting you work with people who disappear for a week after sneezing once. Very, very few people are indispensible, and you are probably making things worse for yourself. Now be concsientious towards your health, and you. If you need a break, then take it. DD

    Mornin TJC,

I hope you feel a bit brighter this morning. I know exactly where you are comming from, you know things don't run go as well when you are away from work, and dread that pile of work waiting for you when you go back. However, if you are honest with yourself you probably aren't functioning at 100% and a few weeks rest will be enough to recharge your batteries, and rest those joints so you can go back fighting.

If you feel really bad have you got an understanding manager you can discuss a temporary changing of your hours? I know for me just finishing an hour earlier each day would make a huge difference. The best way to manage this is to give a bit of notice so people can plan, and it may be better for all for you to say I am going to cut down my hours for a wee while, its preferable to struggling on until you have a real flare up at an unknown time and will be off all together.

Arthur is cruel, we have done nothing wrong to result in this disease so there is nothing to feel guilty about. Have a break, get some rest and have a think

    Hi tjc

No, you should not feel guilty about being ill. You haven't mentioned what type of arthritis you have. Your husband is probably right you need a rest. Arthritis can cause fatigue especially if you're not sleeping at night due to pain and you're pushing yourself at work. Use the time you take off sick to visit your GP and maybe look again at your medication and explain that how you've been feeling.

I had to give up my job just over two years ago because I was finding work and all the hassle that comes with running a department just too much especially as I was in pain and discomfort due to arthritis. It's not easy.

I do hope that you're feeling better. With arthritis you have to listen to your body and not to push things or overdo things. I pace myself these days and give myself little tasks to do each day with rests in between.

Regards and sending you lots of cyber hugs in the hope that you feel a bit better soon.

If you feel really horrible and it's effecting how you are working, then having a few days off might be just the ticket.

With my company you cab self certify for 4-7 days, and after that you would need a sick note from the doctor. I'm not sure if that is a uniform thing, but worth finding out if you think you might need some time off, and you may not have the holiday to cover it?

If you think a few days resting might help, then don't beat yourself up about it. I am the same, I hate being off sick, and I will come in regardless some days and really I should be more selfish, because as they say, if you don't look after number 1, who is going to look after number 2 ,3 etc.

Don't feel guilty either, you need to put yourself first sometimes, for the benefit of you and others, because if you feel better, you will do everything else better too.

    Sending you a hug.

Hi, When you feel so bad, you should have time off. I know when I was at work I was a drag and worry to other staff when I felt off. I'm not saying that you are a drag, just that you should take time off. You might feel better quicker if you rest! Love Sue

You sound like you need a rest and few days off. Some people take time off just because they fancy a day off. Don't feel guilty. You are no use to work anyway feeling like you do and work will benefit from a restored and better you.

Well done you. That was a big step to take but it wasn't as bad as you feared, which is a good thing. You have time to make a cuppa before settling down to Diagnosis Murder - guaranteed to induce another snooze - well, I drop off! DD

    Hi Tjc

Glad you're feeling better for the rest. When was the last time you saw your GP? She may sign you off for a little longer and generally review things.

    Take care.

    Hi tjc

You sound incredibly like myself, I have worked through feeling tired, exhausted even and I am now paying the price. I have been signed off for 2 weeks after going to the Doctors this Monday. I had a bad weekend and ended up in hand splints on Sunday.
I don't go the Doctors at all, just put up with pain and tiredness.
But it all came to a head and I ended up crying to myself on Monday. Thankfully I joined the forum and have had some really kind responses.

Take time off and rest, you will be able to cope better in the long run.
