Last June hubby Stu, who has such severe osteoporosis, fell down our front steps and sustained a comminuted fracture of his femur. He has rods, bolts and screws in it.

Yesterday on a revision of the situation he saw the Orthopod who said he had no idea how he could even put one foot in front of the other as his hip joint is so bad.

The good news is that the surgeon is going to take it all apart and give him bionic new bits to include a THR in titanium:D

Wow, what advances have been made in orthopaedic surgery. Sixteen years ago a surgeon said he wouldn't touch Stu's hip as it would be like putting chalk into chalk.

It won't be an easy ride for him but we're so HAPPY :D

He's going to be soooooooooo happy to get rid of the 4" rod and bolt :)

The surgeon said "Well it's a bit of a fearsom weapon you have there". I think that was a long time ago :?

Wow, the Bionic Man AND Woman. You are going to have such fun at airports!

I wish you both all the luck in the world, although with your positive attitude, you probably won`t need it..........Ange.x.

Aw thanks Toni and Ange :)

Last time I got "taken to one side" at the airport was on a flight to Barbados. There's a bit of titanium in my jawbone  I reckon by the time Stu and I have finished with all the bionic bits there could be a total lock down at the airport. It's probably just as well that we reckon our travelling days are over

The local park with the swans and ducks is more our style these days

Yep I've got the uniform ready Toni

Black lycra tights hide a multitude of sins. You just can't see all the scars, just the shape which if I say so myself is still pretty good. Shame about the varicose veins though, the tights have to be ultra restrictive to hold the little devils in

Just popping off to organise the most fetching nurse's cap. Perhaps I should forget the diamante and concentrate on the starched lace.

Tee hee Toni I can lend him some of my TEDS. I've just thought  If they prescribe Clexane injections rather than the tabs I can keep him fully in check hovering over him with a syringe! Nah, p'raps not, he might squeal, I wouldn't like the neighbours to think I was being cruel

Just found the starch for the cap, all I need now is the upside down nurse's watch to check his pulse

I wish you both all the good luck in the world and hope for a speedy recovery, although I suppose it will take time and physio. Lots of love and let us know how things go, if you have the time. Thinking of you both, love Sue xxxxxxxxx

Thank you so much Sue and Denise.

It does mean such a lot to us that at long last they will hopefully be able to do something for Stu.

The Surgeon is lovely and his speciality is complex revision hip surgery. Mind you from my own experience he's pretty damned good at THR & TKR too :D

That is great news. Titanium is meant to last a life time. This should really improve things for him.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
