Hands & the kitchen.

Im not sure if this is going to help anyone but it has me so here goes.
I have been struggling no end in the kitchen for ages. I have hunted around for kitchen aids & have found a few things to help with my poorly hands.
I have today got 2 things that are really going to help me.
I have got a hot touch. You fill it like a kettle (I have a jug at the side of it) & it boils the amount of water you need just for one cup of tea/coffee etc in seconds. No need to lift kettle as you put your cup underneath it & it fills it. so you walk away with you cup of tea.coffee. you can look at them in the A...s catalogue, more expensive to buy than a noirmal kettle but easier on the hands & energy saving as it only boils the amount of water for one cup
I also got a new electric knife. Ive searched for ages for a new one as my old one has a push button on the top of it making it nearly impossible to use as i have to use my right thumb & it makes it too painful to use. I found one in my catalogue with a simple to use finger trigger switch underneath it,it also has an orgonomic handle. I will try it out on my sunday roast & im sure its going to make my life so much easier I cant use a craving knife & have been struggling with the old electric knife for ages.
Now i have a tomato slicer too,i got this from one of the catalogues you get through the door. It sits nicely on the chopping board, clamps your tomato as you hold the gadget & you slice it through the gaps in it.Let go & your tomato is perfectly sliced, I also use mine for onions. it was only £3.00 bargain.
So i have elecrtic tin opener too & have just got to get the electric jar opener & hopefully my kitchen is equiped with gadgets to help my poorly hands.
sorry it was a long post but im hoping it will at least help someone out there.
If you want to know any makes or any other details Pm me or i'll try to answer on here.

Hi debs
lots of useful advice there.
might be an idea to add it to lululu's sticky 'things to make life easier' so that it doesn't get lost......the sticky's at the top of LWA so you could copy paste it there.

Im saving up for one of those one touch kettles, my sisters mother in law has one and swears by it, says its fantastic. i found one in a big supermarket 'every little helps' and theyre priced a bit more than your average kettle but it would be perfect for me. my hubby drinks coffee and has a machine for that so we only ever boil the kettle for my 1 cup and rarely have visitors so thats my next treat, erm i mean aid0

Hi have a electric tin and jar opener, they'r really good, I also have a big plastic hook thing which goes through ring-pulls and makes them possible for me to use.
Its funny, but I never thought I'd get excited over these sort of things, but I do. Oh and the madolin chopping thing, thats electric!
Lucky to live in an age when we can have these things.

Hi Debs,
I agree a lot of very useful things here so maybe it would be a good idea to paste it to the useful things thread?
I am so glad you got so much help... it was long over due. ((( ))) and a bucket of hopes, wishes and copes Cris xx0 -

cebeem, you can get the electric tin & jar openers from places like A...s the catalogue place or good electrical retailers not sure about the hookie things though.

Hi Lynn, Ive not seen them but will now look out for them. well when i can ever get chance to get hold of the remote control  im sure it belongs to him
I was thinking of getting one of those metal trays with spikes for holding the sunday joint in place but it would still slip. Luckily i have a stair gate between living room & kitchen or Snowy would be eating the contents of bin & god forbid if he gets his head in fridge. He did that once when we stoppped off from a walk & went to M-in Laws for a cuppa, sheopened the fridge for milk & snowy dived in for a packet of pork pies, she wasnt best impressed. I did try not to laugh Didnt take him in after that, wonder why.

Oh Lynn what you like
ive seen those silicone baking trays are they good?
Im looking into lighter baking trays, lighter dinner plates etc as mine are all heavy pyrex & no good for my poorlies & dinner plates are porcaline & so heavy (wedding pressie from years back), OH is good & lifts stuff out the oven for me.
I have thought about just giving them chops & last weekend was chicken portions. In summer i was only doing jackets spuds & chicken but i like me roasts,i even have a 2nd one on monday from the leftovers( not really leftovers as i make more on purpose ) im just a pig

i love the syilcone baking trays/cake dishes. i cook lots of cakes and find them so much easier. if its a big cake or roast dish i usualy sit it on a flat tray for putting in and out of the oven as i find that easier with my hands but i did that with the solid dishes too.0
