Just wondering if anyone could please recommend me some comfy wrist splints. I have a pair but I have to tighten them so much. I have the smallest size but I don't think I have particularly small wrists. :?: I'm typing a lot and using my hands, so I want to ensure they are well supported.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Have you tried good old tubi grip? Maybe it could even go underneath your other splints to make them fit better? I'd be interested to hear what other people think. My splints from the OT are SO uncomfortable!

Hi, I had the same problem & my normal thumb splint was rubbing me rare.
My OT got me a soft splint for my thumb i think there called Mc kennie or mc kenna. Im sure you can find out from my rough name as ive forgotten what there called.
There made of a soft spongy material unlike the normal scratchy splints.
Try asking as the soft splints do exist. They can also make them up for you. Dont suffer if there not comfy ring them or tell them on your next visit, also the soft ones dont seem to fall apart like the normal ones.
Only trouble with wearing tubigrip under splints is they tend to stretch making them fairly useless. Not sure what the night splints or harder splints are like for that but the normal ones with the metal in do stretch.
    Hope that helps, debs

Sounds as though you need a soft jelly wrist rest whilst on the computer, they are easily available and work well, good to play with!

I'm having a bad hand and wrist week at mo, I have found that wearing a wristwatch has upset one wrist, lots of heat helps.

    8) its a grin, honest!

Thank you for all the replies. I have an OT appt in October, will ask for some new splints. I have night gloves (and they're super comfy) but she said not to wear them during the day.

Sometimes I can't wear a watch, so I got a pretty watch on a necklace. Good excuse to spend money!

Been to get some made by OT today...felt ok there but at home they now feel really loose.
She said they helped stop the fingers moving across towards the little finger, but they still can!
Will see if they make a difference but if not ..Im going back!

    Hi Pirncess

I wonder why you were told not to wear the isotoner gloves during the day? I sometimes wear my gloves underneath my daytime splints (although the velcro does catch on the gloves and pulls them.. ) !!

    Hi

I have purchased some pull on neoprene wrist supports from Boots. They are bright blue and fit really snuggly. They are too small for me as my wrists swell a lot. But they may help you as you are tiny. They have a strap that velcros around the wrist as well.

I wear the ones supplied by the OT, the fawn coloured ones with the velcro and the bar that runs along the wrist. Also night splints, which I wear in the day as well.

    Hope this helps

Thank you, Jo. Are yours blue? I have a fantastic blue neoprene ankle support. I wore it for over a year after I tore ligaments.

I bought some splints from nexcare, they are bright blue have a silky feel on the inside and are much better than the fawn ones from OT.also got an elbow support that saved me a lot of pain( I say that like it's not coming back)

I have loads of different splints and wear them for different things My OT got me a softer splint from a company called North Coast which seems to be ok for the more everyday stuff. I am a big computer user for work, using CAD which is a killer for even those without RA, but these seem to help- along with rest and a good mouse and keyboard support.
I have tiny hands and wrists although not so tiny on the bad periods but still small. I find that I continually have to re-adjust the velcro - its better on the ones that the OT has got be and adjusted for me.
Hope you find something that works

    Hi Princess

Yes they are, they are more for sports injuries but they are very snug. Maybe they will suit you better.
I also bought some pull on ones from thermoskin website www.thermoskin.co.uk/wrists

Your thumb comes out a hole and they do them in different sizes. Customer services were very helpful when I had to exchange them for a size bigger.

Hope you find what you want.

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions.

Joanne, I looked at those thermoskin ones but they seemed expensive if they were going to be too big. :? I'm a poor student! I'm not a particularly small person. I'm 5'5 and an average weight, not particularly slim, so I don't understand why wrist supports seem to be huge for me!

I think I'll speak to my OT before I buy anything. I mean, of course, I don't mind spending the money if they're going to help but I won't be too impressed if they're too big.

    Morning Princess

Yes, I forgot to say that they are a little expensive. I do hope you find the right ones for you. It's took me a long time to even use mine as I find the pressure across my knuckles unbearable. But I have realised that I have been in pain unnecessarily and have accepted that I must use them.
    Have a good day
