Some people have found cider vinegar and/or diet very helpful dachshund: it's the old story of what works for one doesn't work for another. I think those with OA have found the most benefit, from what reading I have done about it. Ranulph Fiennes (he of derring-do) swears by cider vinegar but I don't know what sort of arthritis he has. There is no harm in reading up and - possibly- trying it. What do you have to lose? I hope a) you have been doing your exercises and b) you have a lovely week-end. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I took cider vinegar for more years than I care to remember and molasses too, did nothing for me, but by all means try it, Joan.
It interests me, what miracle the chiropractor thinks may possibly happen for you now, Joan, when you have suffered from pain due to arthritis for so long?
You are sensible to get the book from the library. I hope it works for you, should you go down that road.

Hi Joan,
I've tried it for a long time and it did nothing for me ....plus I never got used to the taste YUK
I've also tries black strap molasses - I dessert spoonful a day YUK YUK YUK :? YUK  YUK .................that didn't work either.
Think I've tried most things - but although they don't work for one person they could work for you. I'd be reluctant to stop meds though without docs advise - you're right to check first.
Good luck.

This is just another quack remedy that research has disproved time after time, don't bother.
If your pills aren't helping, then back to your Rheumy for alternatives until some do work. I would also mention about the chiropractor's comments about stopping your treatment. Suddenly stopping any prescription medicine can be very harmful for you and distorts the results of blood tests.

I agree that this will be more helpful for OA.
My chiropractor tells me this also. I had to stop my sessions because she was hurting me so much. She could only help the OA, not RA or PA etc. In fact, the pains I was getting in my muscles wasn't the referred pain from my 'trapped nerves' . It was a flare up of my PMR (Polymyalgeria Rheumatica), which is now affecting my head quite badly.
It's a job to know what to take for which condition. If this old fashioned remedy will bring you relief for the OA pains, it may not necessarily help other conditions. good luck

I've been pondering this dachshund. There must be something in it because amny people do swear by it, but I think it depends on the type of arthritis and how established it is. One can also have one or more forms of arthritis, so probably the diet side wouldn't help! Concentrate on the exercises first, give those a good crack - a few months anyway. Fingers' crossed that they help. I hope you are having a good week-end. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Joan,
Stick with the exercises given by the physio I've found those the greatest benefit to me along with the meds, my daily pain has decreased greatly. The exercises are worth putting half an hour aside each day to do and they will become part of your daily routine.
Hope you're soon over your cold.

Hi Joan
I tried a diet for arthritis many years ago - had to drink honey, cider vinegar and molasses three times a day. Diet was also very strict on what foods were allowed, only fish and chicken no other meats and lots of other prohibited foods I can't remember it all now. I do remember reading in the book that most diets for arthur are designed to reduce symptoms as well as help weight loss as most people suffering from the condition are overweight.
I didn't need to lose weight but gave the diet a try. I followed it for five months, quite strictly. Unfortunately it didn't help with arthur but I did lose weight but once I got down to 5 stone 3 pounds I decided enough was enough and went back to eating normally.
We are all different though, so I wouldn't discourage you from giving it a go to see if it helps you and I wish you luck with it if that is what you decide to do.
Take care

Hi Chicara,
The same thing happened to me when I followed a diet many years ago - the diet sounded very similar to yours. I stuck to it for four months, thought it was doing me good, but my weight dropped below 7st (too scared to weigh myself after that  )
When I stopped the diet I felt much better eating normally and didn't realise how much it had pulled me down.
It's always best to talk to your GP or Rheumy first - I did and must admit they said to try anything to see if it would help.

joan xxHi, I have used this & find it good for fluid retention, and very refreshing - you can buy from Holland & Barrett 'Honeygar' which is already made up & I drink it luke warm. I can't say it helps arthritis directly, but it has a good overall effect on me. It must be pure unpasteurised cider vinegar such as Aspalls or Martlets though. Good luck. Lynn0 -
Hi all
total confused about this food issue. I am still waiting to see the specialist to see what form of arthur i have...did not realise that you could have more than one...
I have been down this food path with my cancer...do not eat dairy eat soya, then no don't eat soya because that can give you cancer....none of them worked as i have had cancer twice and been down that road.
What i do not understand why is there no research done in this area. I think a lot of people are taking advantage of people that are in a lot of pain and looking for anyway to relieve it.
My sister has been told to eat loads of dairy...made her put on loads of weight...no good for arthur. Why is dairy good for arthur? If it is for calcium it can be found in other foods???0 -
The books we read tell us they've done extensive research to prove it all works afterall they want you to buy whatever the miracle cure is.
The diet I followed, Lupin, had no dairy in it at all and surely we need the calcium for strong bones (like your sis). I reckon arthritis diets are like your cancer diets and just don't work - though at the time we'd do anything to try to help ourselves fight our ugly diseases. We're just desperate people - well I know I was.
