I thought I'd headed off another chest infection with antibiotics and could go to a family wedding tomorrow. This evening I'm feeling really ill again, chest hurts etc and know I won't be able to go. My father is coming up from the west country to stay tonight and we were supposed to go together. I'm so disappointed. It's a long day for my father and I worry about him (though he doesn't worry about himself) but also, I wanted to go :(

Don't know how much more of this I can take. Don't seem to be getting any better. Very worrying.

    Hi salamander,
I know you're disappointed but we've all had to cancel things cos of arthur (damn him), but you need to look after yourself that is much more important, you don't want to make yourself worse. I too suffer from bad chest infections that seem to go on and on, sometimes having to take 3 courses of anti-biotics, as if we don't already have enough to contend with. This is a horrible illness that messes up our lives and we all get times when we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel but you will get there.Sending love and ((()))

    Hi Sally,

I'm so so sorry that the chest infection has come back to haunt you. :(

it is so unfair when you had such good plans for this weekend.

are you still on medication for the last infection? will you need to see a doc?

I hope that you can salvage some of the good at least when you see your dad..

don't know what else to say...wish I had a magic wand.

    (((hugs)))

Aw, that must be so very upsetting for you, Salamander. It is just typical isn't it that this would happen when you have a family wedding to attend along with your father. Is the wedding far from you? I wonder if you would be able to go for part of the time if that was at all possible.

Perhaps you may feel a little better by tomorrow. Is the wedding taking place in the afternoon? If so, that may give you more time to decide one way or the other. I so hope you will feel well enough to attend.

    Love
    Elna x

I am so sorry salamander - I shall keep my fingers crossed that as tomorrow is another day a miracle might occur overnight and that you will be able to go. Could you just make it for the ceremony? I know that depends on distance etc but perhaps it would be an option. DD

thanks everyone, DD, Iris, Elna and Sue,
Unfortunately it is a 2 hour journey to the wedding on train and tube. I had thought of just going for a short while but just don't think I am well enough. Am getting very tired too.

Iris, I'm on a new lot of antib's! My gp rang me this morning to see how I was. Problem is she woke me up  so didn't really know though told her I thought might go either way. Just got worse throughout the day. She's made an appointment for me on Monday. I have to say she's been brilliant, rang or seen me every other day for past two weeks. Think she might be just a bit worried about me.....

Yes, it will be nice to see my Dad anyway. I expect he would have gone even if I hadn't. He can't refuse a party, even at 83, and he will be fine without me. Just thought it would be something fun to do together and god knows I need an outing!

    hi Salamander

I'm sorry that you are unwell with a chest infection and it has come when you were going to a wedding.

I'm just starting to recover from one myself. It made me feel so bad my GP increased the steroids to help me. I already use a nebbuliser.

I wonder if you inhaled steam whether it might help. Try it you never know. It helps clear the lungs.

I hope you feel better soon.

    Hi Salamander,

that is very disappointing. Is your Dad staying over Saturday night? If so, have a really early night tonight - you never know you may feel a bit better in the morning. If not, best to stay at home and keep warm and cosy. Give your camera to your Dad and he or a relative can take photos for you to see before the official ones come out.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    thanks Trisher and Speedy,
I've started steaming and you might be right, Speedy, about an early night and rest. But as Sue says, may have to take it on the chin and just enjoy having Dad around for a little bit.

    Hi
So sorry about your current health/chest probs.
This time last year..I suffered chest infections repeatedly y until December!....my GPs refused to treat them saying they needed to run their course and eventually they would burn out and my immune system would benefit.
I didnt believe them as I constantly felt very poorly.
However December came and ...the chest infections disappeared and finger crossed (IF I COULD) not returned yet!

Thanks CB, Luckily my gp isn't leaving me to my own devices as I don't have much of an immune system to fight anything. I would probably be dead by now if she did so am immensely grateful for her intervention!

Thanks Beo, Nice to meet you too! I am gutted but more worried about my Dad being on his own and all the travelling he has to do. If it was just me I wouldn't mind quite as much.

Oh well, you just gotta to take it sometimes :)

Hello salamander, I was wondering how you were so I thought I'd better ask! I'm sorry that you missed the wedding, but that was probably the right call to make. I hope it went off OK and that your dad made it there and back safely. Are you feeling any better today? I hope so. DD

Hi DD, thanks for asking. Still very under par but won't bore you with the detail! I'm boring myself these days! Started doing a bit of meditation to try and chill out about it all a bit more - got a cd. Helps a bit but have got to practice more.

Enough of me, how are you doing?

Hi Cris and Julie, thanks for your messages.
Cris, why do you stink of sheep and cow? I must have missed something here :)

I am seeing the doc today Julie, managed to give both Dad and me food poisoning  but it was really nice to see him nonetheless and it cheered me up. I packed him off to the wedding in the morning and my cousin's husband drove him home at llpm - a two hour extra journey for him - what a lovely thing to do. Mind you, it's the sort of thing my father would have done in his day. Meant I didn't worry. Stupidly dropped him off at the station on a red route (double lines no less) so am waiting for the fine to drop through the letter box. Don't know what I was thinking, probably wasn't!

I think I feel a bit better today but still got irritating cough and asthma. My gp is a star, I would be so bored of seeing me by now!!

    Hi Sally,
How did you get on at the dr's? Hope you and your dad are over the 'erm' little mishap :(
Not good if you get a ticket. Fingers crossed that it does not arrive.

    Thanks Marion and I,
Doctor was great. Basically checked me over and prodded and poked. Thinks my rib pain is def intercostal caused by arthritis. So that's reassuring in a funny kind of way. She also v supportive generally and agrees I've had a bit of a tough time. Nothing new really. Still got a cough but still on antibiotics. Going to chill out a bit tomorrow as did quite a lot today, saw various friends etc. Nice to get out but still need to take it a bit easy.

Things so up and down at the moment but got to recognise am slowly getting over infections but joints not fantastic I have to say. Still waiting for 'urgent' rheumy appt :? but feel more positive than of late.
Thanks again, everyone, for all your support. Invaluable!

Hi DD, quite a bit of improvement thanks! Still got a bit of lingering asthma, probably waiting to erupt into another infection but am managing at the moment. Off the antibiotics today so that's and advancement!
    Thanks for asking!
