MTX - Missing a dose - Help ?

Hi All,
Usually take MTX on Sunday. Since last Monday I have felt as though I am coming down with a cold with a bit of a sore throat too. Not major and not enough to send me off to bed.
I now don't think that this is a result of taking the MTX last Sunday as my daughter and hubby are full of cold too so I've probably picked up something they have ?
However, due to take MTX tonight but just don't feel up to it as don't think I could face feeling like this tomorrow along with the MTX symptoms (tiredness and nausea).
What happens if you miss a week ?
Thanks in advance. xxx

Hi!
I know I'm new to taking Methotrexate, but I did ask all sorts of questions when I started on it. As I went from taking no drugs at all to a massive cocktail of 4 powerful drugs, I didn't feel great to start with and was very reluctant to take Methotrexate knowing it would not make me feel any better while I was feeling groggy. However, you could maybe try doing what I've been doing over the past months which is totally OK'd by the specialists, doctors etc.
You could split the dose and take only half on the day you are supposed to take it and then the other half the following morning? That way you aren't totally missing the dose and it should hopefully not make you feel as rough on top of your cold as maybe you would if you took it all at once.
I hope that maybe this helps you as it's something that's worked for me?

In theory, missing the odd week here and there shouldn't really matter. I've just missed a week because I wanted to be able to drink at a whisky festival. In reality, you might start to experience more aches and pains than normal becaquse you haven't had your weekly dose. I'm expecting to feel slightly worse than normal towards the end of next week.0

Hi Pols, sorry you have a cold now on top of everything else!
I used to miss the odd dose when I was taking mtx, if I felt unwell for other reasons and with no ill effects at all. Once Mtx is in your system it doesn't wear off quickly like, for example, painkillers or anti-inflamms so I'm sure you will be fine. In fact I would advise you not to take it if you are unwell because you could end up being poorlier than you would otherwise and having to miss it for longer.
Hope you manage to see off that cold soon!

If you miss a week you should be okay, but you might feel a bit sore later on.
I get a sore throat when my RA is bad do you think that could be why you have one being as though it hasn't yet developed into a cold?

Hi pols,
sorry you've got a rotten cold
I've had to skip Mtx before and I don't think it'll do you any real harm or set you back if you have to do that too..... but maybe you will feel a bit better tomorrow and able to take it later on?
I used to take my Mtx tabs last thing at night and that helped me avoid the worst of the nausea! (I'm now on the injectable form)
hope you feel better tomorrow.

My hospital will not give me meth if I have a sniffle or sore throat, as it reduces the immune system and makes fighting an infection much harder. Going on how my hospital reacts, if you have any sign of an infection don't take it. You just lower yourself further in terms of health. Skipping a week will not do any harm. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

as many people have already said missing a dose should be fine, especially if your poorly.
It takes 3 to 6 months for MTX to completely leave your system so you can see how much it lingers, so one missing dose won't make a huge impact.
Hope you feel better soon

I haven't had any mtx for about 6 weeks and am only really starting to feel the lack of it. So wouldn't worry for a week.

Hi, As dreamdaisy says above, I have had exactly the same instruction from my hospital.
Hope your feeling better soon.

thanks so much for once again lots of wonderful, informative replies.
i actually ended up taking the dose and thankfully was ok the following day. i will however bear in mind for future not to take it if i feel really ill.
it's such a pain in the butt being on medication  but seen as it appears to be working I won't be one to grumble !
thanks again guys, you're great xxxxx0 -
Hi Pols
Glad you were ok and that you were able to take the meth after all.
I'm with you on the "pain in the butt" comment - but so glad it seems to be working for you.
