Right now peeps. I need lots of answers so I can decide which is the best way to go with this.

I have a tree, a very nice tree, lots of happy memories from it.

Well this plant has grown and I did not know what it was. I know find it is Poison Ivy.

It now has taken a hold of my tree and it grip is getting tighter on my tree.

How can I get rid of it? I tried chopping it off but that has not worked it has these little fingers or what they call them.

It is taking over my tree. and strangling it.

So HELP what can I do with it. The more I cut off the more is growing. It seems to think it has a right to kill my tree and take over.

It is in the garden. I like my tree but this thing has it mitts on it and won't let go. It is over taking it I don't like it.

We did use the chopper on it, the more you chop the more it grows.

    hi trisher.
you could try a weedkiller with something called glyphosphate in it.
it's supposed to kill the roots as well as the stuff above ground.
    Roundup is one brand.
Sorry I don't know anything about poison ivy

    Just seems to smother everything.

Thank you though I might try that.

What about burning it off with one of those hand busen burner things? I'm sure the tree could withstand a bit of singeing (sp).

    I meant a bunsen burner!

I don't think removing the shoots will do much good, you definitely have to go for the roots, but they are often very deep and surprisingly thick.

as Len says paint it on and I would do so as a concentrate you could try and make some sort of viscous paste with something like wall paper paste and weed killer another thing you could do is pull a good length of the thing free from the tree but still atached to the mother plant stuff it into a good strong plastic bag really dose it up well and then tie up the end leaving the thing drenched in the stuff, it would then be weather proof and in contact for days so it would get a good drink and be weather proof to boot!

Yes Jan In my garden over my tree. It has these long finger like things they will squeeze the life out my tree.

Oh no it won't I'm saying. Nor in my garden it won't. Trouble was I never saw it start.

My pretty tree has lots of memories I don't want to loose it.

    Thanks Del

Will do that as well. If I or we attack it root wise also scrapping some off then doing it it might get rid of it quicker.

Does it take long to die??

    Thanks though

Ive got loads of that coming over the fence from the park, i didnt think it would start attacking my scrubs until i saw this thread  .
Now im going to have to get rid of it & its climbing over the fence(both sides) spreading & has come up under the rockery. weedkiller is going on my shopping list before it spreads any further.
Thanks for starting this thread Trish.
