    Hi Deborah,

i think if I were you I wouldn't take them without asking some one first. I wonder if NHS direct could help on this one? Their number is 08454647 but some part of me is thinking the number has changed.... Try it and if it doesn't work have a look on their website for a number unless Wonky or someone else who knows it is about.

I really hope you soon feel a lot better. Cris x

    HI Deborah,

I am sorry I didn't see this earlier ...... but I would definitely say to miss them today (if you've taken them already then don't read the rest of this  )

I have always been told that if the MTX is given/taken when you are already fighting an infection, it makes it harder for the body to fight the infection, and risks making things worse rather than better.

1 day later won't make a huge difference, but I'd def say to get advice before you take it just in case your cough is something more serious than you think (which it probably won't be, but you never know  )

    good luck!

Don't. If you have any sign of an infection then the answer is no. That is what my hospital says. DD

Iv'e been on MTX for 5 years and I've never been told I shouldn't take it when I've got an infection.I often get chest infections, that's probably why they last so long. I'm now realising my rheumy team are even more c**p than I thought. It seems very hit and miss whether you get a good team. I think they should follow the same rules nationwide and if they are supposed to, then someone should be doing something about it as they obviously don't.

    Hi deborahjane :D

glad you got the doc's advice and hope you will shake off the cold before you fly out to Portugal... lovely!

nanasue... it is baffling why we don't all have the same advice to follow.
when you started on Mtx, were you given a leaflet from the rheummy outlining what symptoms to look out for (raised temp, cough, signs of infection etc) and when to call for advice? do you have an Mtx monitoring Card?

I've been taken off Mtx due to severe chest infections. They always took them very seriously with x-rays and blood tests. Once got swept through A&E at high speed to get them done which was pretty impressive. Was told from the beginning to miss a dose if I got a cold/infection or was on antibiotics. I've had a couple of doctors, mostly out-of-hours that have been a bit rubbish, practically got pneumonia because they didn't take it seriously enough. You have to insist sometimes.

I have not had my MTX due to a cold for 3 weeks now. Week no 4 is Thursday.
I took my Humira on Monday last week as i thought I was getting better and my cold got worse again and set me back so wait until you are feeling better if possible.
