Today has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me, all to do with this wretched disease. So, my question to you all is what is the one thing that you do that makes you laugh, or smile, or just feel a bit happier when all in your world is seeming dull, grey and sad? :)

My revelation was joining this site. There are some remarkable people on here, and they have taught me so much. I come here when I am happy, indifferent, lonely, sad, pleased, cheerful, gloomy, tired, tearful, optimistic, pessimistic, this is the place that makes all the difference, this is the place that helps. DD, that is a wonderful answer!

I enjoy reading and sharing my experiences as it makes me feel less alone. I am, however, still struggling to come to terms with it and am finding it hard not to be angry a lot and put on a happy and positive front to people which is rather two-faced of me as I don't believe what I am saying to people yet they seem to almost admire my positivity. I know over time it will get easier and I will at some point accept it and then my positivity will be genuine so that I believe it too... which is why I think I do this 'front' so that I will start thinking it's true!

OMG, your story totally cracked me up, it really did! It's even brought a smile to my face now! That is an excellent way to make yourself smile. :D

    Hi Alarkra,

i so agree with DD there are some incredible people here!

My other answer is going to sound stupid but I feel lighter and happier with my sheepsis... I don't know why but they are like a little breath of fresh air and how ever down I feel I am better with them tearing at my pockets and raking my legs for Bourbons, custard creams or their favorite... doble chic cookies... alarkra, I am 15 years into this ***** - wanna know a secret? I still struggle. 15 years is nothing compared to some on here, but that doesn't alter my resentment about the waste of my life. I shall be railing on my deathbed about the iniquity of it all - as long as the arthrits isn't too active at the time, thus robbing me of valuable spoons! DD

OH NO! daylily, what are we gong to do? Have a whip-round on the forums? Oh hun, I am so sorry.

alarkra: you learn to tell those 'outside' that all is well. It is not being two-faced or deceitful, it is the right thing to do. They ask, because social norms demand/state/hint that they should show an interest. You reply that all is fine because social norms demand/hint/state that you should answer, BUT NOT WITH THE TRUTH. They do not understand the truth, and I think it is wrong to bore them with the details. Those 'outside' think 'OK, I have a bug/pain/inconvenience, I will go and see the doc, he will give me medicine and I will get better.' They cannot grasp that arthritis don't work like that. That is why here is so good - you can let it all out and people understand. Mr DD has been in complete ignorance this week about Mrs DD (he has other stuff with which to deal, he is one floor up and I can hear the snoring!) but the forums ain't. The support I have recieved in the past few days is amazing. Humbling. And so meaningful, 'cos the people on here know what it is like. DD

Alarka, this site does really help, makes you realise you aren't the only person battling arther, you get drawn into other people's lives and it is a welcome distraction.

The sunshine helps me ... but there isn't a lot about today ...

Mental distraction helps - talking to friends, music, a good book or film; red wine and chocolate ..
