Hi everybody a huge great thank you for ll the kind wishes Feeling a lot better today .They let me home on Friday This is the first time feel fit enough to sit and write and as the boss has gone out shopping nobody to tell me to sit down.Yhe hoapital was fantastic 4 star luxury en suite room The treatment was great .Felt a bit rough to appreciate the senoritas but Ceri kept drooling over the handsome Spanish surgeon.Think if I had to do it again I might like a general anaesthetic. Its a bit daunting to hear power tools and a hammer an chisel being used on your leg.The food was excellent if you like Spanish cooking and the ability to speak Spanish a must Ceri has to change my dressing every day and give me Heparin injections for a month.Luckily our neighbour(a nurse)gave her a crash course.I suppose the money they save on aftercare is spent on brand new hospitals. Thanks again for all the good wishesPlease don't throw me out when I'm better luv...TonyXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Blimey, they did let you out quick. Good to see you posting. How is the walking? Or won't Ceri let you do any?! Remind her it is fine balance of enough exercise to prevent clots and get the muscles working and too much is no good either because then you are in too much pain.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi tonesp
Glad you are now back in your own surroundings although that hospital sounded not half bad.
I had a local anaesthetic when I had the bursa removed from my stump and yes it is scarey, He also got some sort of tool to snip some of the bone from the stump too. That made me twinge a bit. I was talking to the nurse all the time , It must have been difficult for you with spanish nurses. Que-tal I bet they kept asking that. how are you.
Good on your wfe to take over nursing duties. My OH has to do my dressings too,
Good job they are not squeemish eh!
Well you recover nicely now
Take care

Pleased to hear you are back home, Tony. Just do as you are told and you will be fine. I am a wimp, give me a GA every time Thank goodness it does not make me feel unwell only that I am ravenous as soon as I "wake up".
Hope you will let us know how you are going on and if you have any questions I am sure the "Hip Club" will rush to give their advice.

Wanted to add to this DD - I wanted to say, but really dont want to offend our night owls on chit chat - I think it is bad idea to get into the habit of staying up all night unless you REALLY can't sleep.

Morning tonesp
hope you had a better night and that the 'red capsules?' do help you...... seems a bit lightweight for what you have gone through.!
is your OH still providing you with your nursing care? I don't know where any of us would be without the support of family or good friends.
have a good day today...... sitting in sunshine a possibility for you? it's raining cats ad dogs here. Bet you miss our lovely weather.... not!

Hi Tonesp,
When I went in for my hip op, the anaethestist (who was Polish) spent ages telling me the benefits of a having the op done under a spinal block and how it was cheaper, quicker recovery for the patient etc and always used in Poland. Then he sighed and said, but they don't use them for hip operations in this hospital and I have to give you a GA. So no choice in some hospitals here either.
Ceri is right about raising your leg to help with swelling - but very best to elevate it is on the bed - with the leg higher than the heart. A row of pillows under the mattress (and sticking out slightly so they don't slip,) really helped me.
Is it the sleeping on your back that is keeping your awake or being in pain?

Hi Tonesp
I'm a bit late but welcome back. Glad the op went ok. Hope you're not doing too much - like others have said you need to find the balance between walking and resting.
Take care
