this may sound a bit obscure but does anyone have tummy cramps when they have eaten a banana? i used to be fine but past few months i have been getting really bad cramps and am wondering if it could be the bananas ?

    Hi Shezza

Do you think it might be your medication that's upsetting your tummy rather than the bananas? Are you on diclofenac and co-dydramol?? Diclofenac can really upset your tummy and should be taken immediately after you've eaten and never on an empty stomach. Many people take omeprezole to ease the indigestion brought on by meds.

Saying that, you could have some sort of allergy to the bananas.

A line of pain across the abdomen? A dose of Omeprozole everyday sorts me, occasionally the pain comes back.

    Hi Shezza,

I don't thin there are any odd questions you can't ask here.

OH flower... they can double me up... and make other things happen later  I have IBD and they are one of the things I know I eat at my peril... but the are nice and I do some potassium.. and I never learn

The cramps could be them but it might be worth getting it checked out if it continues or branches out to other foods.Cris x

They are very rich in potassium, so it could be a reaction to that. Do you have any tummy protector meds - and if so, are you taking them? They might help. Is it only bananas that cause this? If it carries on then go and see your doc. I wish you well. DD

If it carries on though GP is the place. You never know could be something like IBS starting?

    Hi shezza :)

Not a silly question at all. Perhaps you are not chewing the banana enough! They take a long time to get digested. Perhaps the bananas are not quite ripe. Did you used to be able to eat them? This can happen with some foods, you are ok with them for years and then suddenly the same food will give you jip.

You can either stop eating them or ask a medic about it.

I would be very sorry, if all of a sudden I could not eat bananas.

    Luv

Do you have a latex allergy? I ask because there is a protein in bananas that the antibodies against latex cross react with. The two allergies often go together. xx

Hi bananas give me a bit of indigestion, so I have to be careful. I know some people get pains from them. Hope you find a way round the problem! Love Sue
