It would help to know what is being scanned! My knee didn't fit the holder so they just crammed it in, which hurt. That has happened twice now. I haven't been fed in my entirety into the machine, they are quite enclosed spaces. They are very noisy things but they do give you headphones to deaden the sound. Some hospitals even provide music/radio thro them or you can take in your own stuff to be played. You are connected to the nurses via a button on a cord, they can talk to you via a loudpseaker. They might inject you with a dye - that depends on what they are scanning/looking for. I had four scans on my knee, each time - four different angles, and the machine made a different sound for each one. Between scans, when it was resting, it sounded like a panting beast, gearing itself up for another assault! I didn't feel a thing, but my feet got cold. That's all I can think of for now - it isn't a diffcult thing, just close your eyes and try to relax. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I think you will be all-the-way-in then. It is a narrow tube, but both ends are open! You do have to keep quite still - I don't know if your moral support will be allowed to be in there with you, the magnetic field is very strong. When I had mine a nurse went thro a checklist of stuff beforehand, and once put on the sliding bed wioth my knee crammed in I was left alone and remotely controlled. Mr DD wants a similar gizmo - dream on! :D My scan took about twenty minutes from start to finish - you may have the dye, I don't know. Close your eyes and take yourself off to another place and time. It is OK, really. DD

    Hi Tillypink

You will be just fine, my best advice is to shut your eyes and keeep em shut incase you are claustrophobic as it could be scary.

They give you ear phones as it takes you photo lots and lots of times and goes BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!!!!! well loud. If it helps my sis had one a while back and she has since lost 6 and half stone....

Theyu do warn you when it is going to happen and also sometimes you can have music on - if they do that you can count the records so you know how long you have been in there.

Of course there is a panic button too.

I am giving this same advice you my 15 year old daughter who is having one on the 14th - on her brain - she will have a cage over her face too :(

    Good luck

    Love

    Hi tillypink

You will be at the hosp now waiting to go in. The time is 2.40.

I had a mri scan last saturday and i too was shaking like a leaf, cause this time my whole body was inside. Took deep breaths and shut my eyes til it was all over. I took my own cd but they had the radio 4 playing. Couldn't hear what the radio was saying cause of all the blooming noise. Pretended I was in spain on a beach right next to construction site. :)

Anyway hope it went ok for you too.

    Thinking of you

Hi I'm glad you didn't suffer too much! It's the thought of it, for a lot of people, I think. I've had 2, the first one was OK except that the ear defenders came off and I didn't press the button, as I thought it was a bit silly. I should have done, my ears hurt so much and I had splitting headache! :( Still, my fault.  The second one and the ear defenders stayed on and I had radio 2, they gave me a choice of music and I chose the radio! No problems, just a bit of banging and the cold bed thing made my back ache. moan moan! Glad its over for you, though, and its only natural to be nervous when its something new.
