Hi everyone
I have an appointment with the haematologist this afternoon. I had to have an iron infusion earlier this year because Hb dropped so low. But I could really do with some positive thoughts while I'm there as I am going to be trying to persuade him that I don't need a gastroscopy and colonoscopy next Tues. I've had many in the past, it is not the thought of having them done that is the problem it's the fact that I've been told by endoscopy unit I cannot take anything with codiene in it for 7 days before procedure. Asked if I could still take my Oramorph they weren't sure told me to contact GP. Spoke to GP who just advised I try and cut the amount of painkillers down for that week - not really helpful.
I am so, so hoping I can persuade doc this afternoon that I don't need these procedures - the thought of next to no pain relief for a week is a daunting prospect.
Oh I can't take NSAIDs because of all the different cocktails I've had over the years nor can I take Tramadol and quite a few other things, so not many alternatives for me.
Really dreading the outcome of this appt.
Hope everyone else is having a 'reasonable' day.
Take care

Hi chicara,
I'll be in your pocket too! and hoping that the appointment this afternoon will go really well.
sorry you're pain meds options are so limited.... but surely there must be something they can suggest you take.. maybe injections rather than tabs?
it's difficult enough to have the prospect of the double scopes (well done to you for being able to cope with that so well :? ) without having to be left in pain for a week before the procedure.
Hope the consultant you see this afternoon will have some better advice for you.... it really doesn't sound fair!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to you all for your messages, positive vibes etc.
Waited an hour to see consultant and then took me best part of 15 mins to persuade him that I didn't need a the gastroscopy and colonoscopy, but I got there - mission accomplished - it is such a relief that I can carry on taking my normal meds.
I really appreciate all your help - it means a lot - thank you.
Absolutely shattered now and joints playing havoc so going to curl up on sofa and watch TV for rest of evening.
Hope you all have a good evening and a reasonable nights sleep.
Take care

Hi, I'm so glad that they've agreed you don't need the tests. I hope all goes well for you. Sorry, I missed the positive thought thing, but I'm glad the others thoughs and yours seem to have worked. (Plus a good old fashioned nag at the doctor)
Lots of love Sue xxx0
