Plugs

Hi Everyone,
Haven't been around. Am on my way back from hell in a handcart!

Yesterday I had to got to Mobility for something for my mum. My hands are in quite a state now and it's getting quite frustrating. Anyway, while I was there I spotted a little packet swinging on the display. It says 'New! Plug Tugs'.

I've been worndering if anyone else had seen them. I have a devil of a job pulling plugs out, and the ones with the ring on them are expensive. This packet has got 10 pieces in it - not expensive. They are plastic pieces which you just fit onto the plug, leaving the front bit loose and you can just pull it out of the socket with ease. There is a website if you want to check them out.

Hope the Moderator doesn't mind me mentioning this, but thought you might be interested - it's something lots of us struggle with. Hope I won't have to do a hundred lines or get a smacked wrist.

They do make life easier. Ask them if you can try one, to see how you get on with it. DD

How funny, I was imagining a sink plug - until I got to the end of your post.

Good point DD, my old local mobility shop were always great at letting you have a try of things before you bought it (or not.)

WOnder if some other hand-folk have tried them.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi

I'm not sure about them being 'new'. My OT gave me some of these must be near on 15 years ago. They can help but I found that because they are only a thin strip of plastic (depth wise) they hurt my hands, I much prefer the moulded handle plugs, they are sturdier and easier to hold I find, although as you say much more expensive. Having said that, as with most things related to arthur what doesn't work for one person often works for another.

However I think as has been said above, it might be better to see if you can try one out before you buy them.

Let us know how you get on.

    Take care
