Hey everyone..
Em here new to this forum..
Recent flare-up of neck has caused lots of problems..pain..stiffness and nausea and dizziness..managed to self refer to a great physio..took 4 wks..but alas cannot have any treatment until mri scan has been done..frustrating but necessary i guess..I have an underlying disability due to a road accident in 1994 and two further whiplash injuires in 1997 and 1998.. gp thinks its cervical sponylosis..with some artery disruption..not sure if its muscualar based or bones too. or both...luckily I now have anti nausea tabs and anti spasmodics(at night)..but after several weeks still not significantly better..am finding driving..drying my hair.washing up...working at pc and reading all difficult and bring on pain etc..I am pretty independant and live on my own..but its starting to interfere on a daily basis and the nausea and pressure pain in my neck is making it hard for me to concentrate..:-) ..hopefully wont have to wait too long now..my gp has refered me to physio consultants who will be able to organise the mri..should havan oppointment to see then in next 7 days and go from there..
would be great to chat to thers on here..offer support and be around others who live with similliar issue..xx

Hi Scoobiedoo
Welcome to the forum.
I hope you get some help for your neck soon and the MRI doesn't show up anything scary.
Have they advised you to wear a neck support? I just wondered if this would help. I had a nasty accident about 20 years ago and suffered from whiplash. The collar was really nice and comfy made it easier to sit up/read etc. I used to be a first aider (many moons ago) - in fact I was a volunteer with St. John's Ambulance for about ten years. I made my own neck brace by using a triangular sling and a newspaper. In fact I preferred the one I made to the hospital one.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll get the physio you need and you get the right medicationf or you pain.

Hi Em,
A welcome from me as well. Its a good place this.
I do sympathise as I got very similar though I know my is bone and disc and am glad they are waiting till the MRI before doing any treatment cus they need to know what what there. Physio isn't always the answer.
Can I ask you what anti-spasm drugs you got please? I have never had much luck with the ones they have given me and now mine are forced to relax via trigger point jabs.
I don't know if you can do some relaxation/meditation or drifting at all? It helps to get the muscles a bit less locked up for me. Works for all but 3 and they just don't seem to know how to relax anymore.
Really hope the MRI is sorted soon so you know what your dealing with and nice to meet you. Cris x0 -

heya..many thanks for your reply..
hope the mri sheds some light on the problem..and nothing too scarey comes up..no no neck support offered as yet..i use a speacial neck pillow at night..yes I hope to start physio oonce they have the results etc..hope the meds help with the nausea and muscle spasm..my gp thinks prior to this flare up the fact that i was freewheeling in my chair with my dogs(while scooter thingy fixed) has exacerbated the problem..which would probably have happened soon anyway..have my trike back now after 8 wks but cant say my neck is any better just energy levels a bit higher..lol

Hi chris..
thanks for your welcome..in fact all who have posted on here.:-)
ooh good to speak to someone who has simillar probs..will have to wait for mri to see if any boney/disc involvement aswell as muscular..fingers crossed not..but not sure why the artery is getting pinched when my neck is in a certain position or movement..also getting numbness in thumb and forefinger on one hand when i wake up..it does resolve.. but sometimes its my whole hand..:-( this flare up started last wk in August..and my gp thinks the fact that i have been doing extra freewheeling on the park with my dogs for several wks before prob hasn helped..have my powertrike back now..and glad to be using it again..although am struggling with the 5kg battery and lifting the main part in and out of boot of car..eeklol
I have to say the physio has been great and very thorough..just cant have any treatment at minute..the muscle relaxants are buscopan but can only take at nite as they can acuse drowziness..
did try diazapam but wasnt keen on them being addictive lol
Will try some relaxation.but as you say sometimes the muscles just forget to realx..have some exercises to do from physio..but need to be careful as if I push it too far..the nausea nd dizziness come on badly..
staying positve and keeping going..just need to pace myself more than usual..i work for myself from home a s an animal behaviouristalso now a distributor for forever living aloe vera products for people and pets..:_)skezier wrote:Hi Em,

Hi, WElocome to the forum! Ohh your neck sounds nasty.... really painful. I hope you get the results soon and can have some treatment.
I have arthritis in my neck so I can sympathise a bit, but yours sounds much more painful than me! Take care, love Suexxx0 -
Hi sue..thanks hun..yes it is very painful..I have been living with chronic pain in my back since the accident in 1994..but this takes the biscuit..lol i think the nausea and dizziness are disruptive to say the least..the pain is not great either..pressure like pain..not sharpe or dull..its like someone is pushing down very hard..at the base of my neck..and the headaches are a pain too..lol but hey hope to get sorted soon..and fingers crossed get back to how I was before the flare up..
how do you cope hun?? we all have our ways..lolxwoodbon wrote:Hi, WElocome to the forum! Ohh your neck

hi again chris..wqanted to ask..can they help at alll with your disk problem>>?? have they offered you any treatment? I have done some research for a friend with lower back disc probs..and stem cell treatment is good for surgery that has not worked or for those who want a lesss invasive and risky alternative..they collect stem cells from your hip..laser away old tissue and inject the stem cells into the disk..regenerating it..pretty sucessful but privatly funded am afrraid..

Please just remember you may not be on the same path as me. Just wanted to say that one cus you need to know that.
I had useless doctors for a long time. It took me 5 years to get the neck xrayed cus I had extensive oa in the lumber down so they said it would be more of the same.
I see a rumo for the circulation actually and I got to the point that it hurt so much and I was blacking out and well you sadly now the throwing up... which is never helpful eh?!
He sent me for an MRI and well it was to late for surgery.... though on a bad day I would willingly do my own.
I am going to ask about stem cell...... for both the neck and the lumber but unfortunately other things keep getting in the way when I see the rumo and pain clinic and there isn't time to o it cus the rest is more important. I now have the temp nerve blocks and am honestly thinking about having the permanent one either with chemicals or cryogenic.....
You might find yours is easier as its earlier on the my old gp's have a lot to answer for.... in so many ways
Hang i there and wait and see what the results say. Please let us know and in the mean time keep posting and I will try and find the time to ask about stem cell this month. I couldn't afford it but have collateral A ((( ))) and a hope you will soon hear. Cris x0 -
Hi scoobydoo and welcome from me too!
Sorry you are having such a tough time of it, but you will find lots of support on here, so hopefully you won't feel so alone.
Really hope your scan appt comes through sooner rather than later so that you can move forward.
Thinking of you.
Love Tilly x0 -
Hi Chris..thanks for filling me in..!! Gosh you have had a lot to deal with and bad drs certainly dont help..:-)
After my accident i had probs walking..so they gave me a walking stick..3 yrs later at rehab physio they tell me it was 2inches too short..its there a rhumo diagnosed complex regional pain in my left leg..too late for nerve blocks etc..and an mri scan also showed a partail lesion on my spne from accident..
the physio i have seen lately pointed out also that some probs with the neck can ifact affect the lower limbe..am a bit confused..lol During the years after my rta i had crap or no treatment on the nhs and because i was going through a compensation claim I believe this directly affected my treatment..it shouldnt but back then it did..no-one seemed to want to know..but when a fellow nhs employed suggests you sue the nhs for neglegence..its shocking(i didn sue them lol)
yes i really hope to get a teatment plan sorted once mri has been done..thanks for your support..xskezier wrote:scoobiedoo wrote:hi again chris..wqanted to ask..can they help at alll with your disk problem>>?? have they offered you any treatment?
