"Special" scan

Hi, Off tomorrow for what consultant calls a special scan. This is to try to find why I am losing bone from the metal bit of my knee replacement. At last visit to hospital consultant said he was "flumuxed" by it. Its over two years since TKR so I'm not impatient and the pain in the new knee is getting worse. Had X ray in June and again in August and both show progressive loss of bone at the Tibia implant. I dont know what a "special" scan is but have to go to CT department so assume its for a CT scan. Will post result when I get it.

Oh, that's a new one on me. What a mystery - is it actual loss of bone or loss of bone density? Hang on, DD, the scan should explain. I wish you well, grampyal, please let us know how you get on, tho I doubt they will be able to tell you immediately. Please keep in touch. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Grampyal
Sorry to hear about the problems with your bones and the pain etc after your TKR. I too have never heard of this and hope that they can sort things out for you sharpish. I had my TKR in February this year. I often wonder if they ever check with X Rays to see how the joint is settling in.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that all goes well for you.

Hi all,
Scan went fine. Got last disabled place in car park and was in, scand and out again in 15 mins. Was taken into room and shown scanner. Girl said that the big POLO thing was the scanner, thought ,You'd need a big mouth to suck that. Just an ordinary CT scan but results will take 2 to 3 weeks to get back to consultant. I've made an appointment to see him on 25 Oct so will be interested to get expert opinion on what is wrong. Thanks for all replies.

Hi
I really do hope the results are good, and whatever is wrong, can be rectified, without another big op.
Good luck
