Hi everyone
I have had a letter to have biomechanical testing through podatry dept. Anyone had exerpience of this and could let me know what to expect. I have had knee surgery and since then ankle trouble (already had ankle surgery on same foot) so was wondering what they might do.

    Hi Bailey and dippydoodah

I haven't ever had this Bailey, but have heard of it. I think what they do is observe the way that you move, and the impact that will have on the joints - feet I guess particularly since it's podiatry you mention. On that basis they can decide if there if anything which can help - eg customised shoe inserts.

I may be way off the mark here, but sure someone will be along soon who know about this stuff properly.

I agree with tilly and frog, but then I always do! I don't think you need to be worrying about anything, bailey. On the other hand tho, if they ask you to do this,

then that could be a little alarming!

The podiatrist may need to report to the surgeon - I don't know, I'm not a doc, but that could be a possibility. Don't fret, all these things are designed to help you! Take care. DD

    Hi Bailey,

they will examine your foot - how it moves - firstly with you sitting up on a bed, then with you standing and then finally with you walking up and down. They will look at how well the foot functions and then if they think they can help they will make/suggest insoles to correct the way you feet are working. The insoles have to be introduced gradually as they will alter the whole way you use your feet and walk - and may cause some discomfort at first.

I think you have been referred because pains in the feet/ankles/calves/knees can all be caused by problems with the feet.

Let us know how you get on.
