Firstly I must appoligise, only seem to post when something is up :(:(

Just new that this was going to happen, been on crutches for 2 weeks now and my shoulder has slowly got worse pain wise even my fingers are hurting and my other shoulder is started to hurt as well now. Been very lucky OH has been brill hes done everything. I'm not allowed to weight bare for 6 weeks so still got 4 to go off to have my stitches out tomoz.

The op I have just had done is called a Jones Procedure on my big toe and also they have put a wedge near to my arch, I have something called pes cavus nothing serious just very high arches and sometimes painfull feet, had a triple fusion nearly 2 years ago, think I am going to have to go threw the same ops with my other foot.

If this is a trapped nerve do I just take painkillers, or could I be aggrevating arther as my other shoulder is starting to hurt as well,

any ideas or tips will be greatly appreaciated sorry to go on Junexx

    Hi June

Please don't ever apologise on here - we are here to listen and help if we can!

Sorry about your shoulders - as you say it's difficult to know if its arther or a trapped nerve but given that it's both shoulders now, I wonder if the pain is because of using the crutches. Sorry, can't remember what sort of arthritis you have but, if you are not already under the care of a physio after your op, might be worth asking if you can be referred to one because I guess they would be able to advise you.

Sorry I can't be more help but I know there are plenty of other crutch users out there and I am sure someone will have some advice for you.

Thanx Tilly, Still not got a definate diagnosis, inflammatory arthritis of some kind (seronegative, polyarthritis, borderline positve) each time I go to Rheumy get a different diagnosis, they have been very good thou.

I do wonder if it is the crutches although I havent been using to much, I havent had any physio don't think I'll get any till my plaster comes off.

Crutches are there to support. Don't grip them as tho your life depends upon them and do not hunch your shoulders. Grip them lightly, drop the shoulders and move slowly until you are accustomed to the co-ordination you require. I think it best to use them alternately, so right crutch forwared with left leg, and vice versa. The both-forward-together-then-step also increases the strain on the shoulders. Take care. DD

    Hi June

So sorry you had such a bad night with your shoulder and wrist. In my experience pains can move around and do, often seem to be connected. Referred pain (ie pain stemming from one place being felt in another) is quite common. Will you mention it when you go to hospital today? it does sound as if you need to get some help with it.

Glad your daughter will be with you today - hope it goes well June.

    Thinking of you.

Morning thanx for the replies, I will not be seeing my rheumys till the 18th of this month, I'm going today to have my stitches out and plaster-cast changed, :o:o Shall have my bloods checked today while I'm out and about. This pain I've been having is weird, it is now in my fingers give it a couple of hours and it will be gone (I hope). Pain to me always seems to be worse at night. Gonna give it a kick up the rear :x :x

    Take care all Junexx

    Hi
Pain is always much worse at night....not the same sort of distractions at night as during the day. I can cope with pain during the day but at night...thats a different matter.
Not much help about the crutches ...sorry.....the only time I was non weight bearing was when my ankle was smashed .....both bones and they sent me home with a zimmer frame  and I said how do I use this and still be non weight bearing.
    zimmer frame forward...hop....zimmer frame....hop....zimmer frame hop {with arthriths in both hips and not being a youngster that wasnt easy :lol: }
Going upstairs I had to use an under arm crutch, and a bannister and hop.....I did it in the hospital and they were satisfied and let me out. I spent a couple of months going up and down stairs on my bum  Much safer. Thought it might tone my muscles....not a chance
