Hi. Someone suggested I repost my opening message here.

Hi
I'm 36 and have MS. Following steroid treatment for my MS last week I woke up to find I couldn't bend my knee, on what is my good leg. We took a trip to A&E on Sunday as I was struggling to get about. An xray was taken and I got bandaged up. I was seen in the fracture clinic yesterday and was told that my good leg has osteoarthritis in it :S I have to go back in 3 weeks to see if there is any improvement. In the meantime I've to wear a knee brace. I look a right state as I already where a splint on my left leg because of my MS. I've been given some diclofenac for my knee.
With both my legs out of action I thought I'd check out some info on the internet and came across this site. Would be nice to chat with people in a similar position to me. Currently stuck at home as getting out is a nightmare at the minute. Generally feeling quite sorry for myself now as since being diagnosed with MS I appear to be making a collection of ailments.
Leigh

    Hi Leigh

Just like to welcome you to this site. It is a great place to get advice, chat and have a laugh as well. have a good look round in all the forums.

I do not have OA, so can't comment on that, but someone will be able to. It is usually quite quiet on a saturday pm - especially as the weather is sunny. But peeps will be on later.

    Hi Leigh,

Welcome to the site, they are a good lot here.

Its not too surprising your feeling sorry for your self, any new ailment is hard to get your head round. You just need a bit of time to let it sink in and hopefully with their help it will not impact on you as much as you think it will just now. I really hope the diclo's start helping you soon and nice to meet you. Cris x

Hi Leigh, sorry to hear you have OA as well as MS. DId they say how advanced the OA is? Have you tried heat bags/ice on your knee when resting to help the pain?

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Thankyou for the warm welcome.
I have fallen out with the knee brace they gave me - probably as I just can't get it on right lol.
My MS relapse is improving which is making me feel a bit better in myself. Now if I could just lose the knee.
Someone asked me how advanced the OA was - erm not sure lol. All I remember is the specialist said OA, mentioned surgery, gave me the knee brace and come back in 3 weeks.
On Friday my partner managed to get me in the back of my car and take me out - not ideal way to travel but I needed to get out the house. And with the knee brace I can't drive as it don't bend :( I'm hoping when I go back they'll give me something more suitable as I don't want to have to give up driving.
I guess on the plus side being off my feet has given me time to catch up on my cross stitch projects.
My partner is being great - doing all the cooking.
Last couple of days I've been spending time without the brace as advised and I have been able to get my knee to bend a bit, rather than being locked straight.
Looking forward to getting to know you all a bit more. Have been spending time reading some of the leaflets and messages on the forum.

    Hi leigh

just wanted to welcome you to this forum.

I hope the next time you visit the hosp they will give you either treatment medication to help with your knee or a better brace that you can fit properly and use.

Lovely hobby is cross stitch, i used to do it but now cant hold the needle.

    Take care
