Hi everyone,
Hoping you're all having a good day. Can anyone tell me which are the best meds for fibro, for the pain and to help with sleep. After being told I had fibro I wasn't given any information so I've tried doing some research but I've not really come up with anything, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place !!! Do you think I should go to GP for advice ? It's going to take a bit of time to get my head round this, you just get one thing sorted and something else comes up, but that's life I guess. Feeling really tired athe moment and having trouble concentrating, I think I'll have a cuppa and put my feet up.

Sue x

    Hi Sue

I think they wil try a nerve blocking kinda thing like lyrica or gabapentin and usually something like amitriptyline ( relaxes you and can help with the sleep issue) and sometimes a painkiller too.

Like a lot of things there are no specific meds for fibro :(

    Love

    Hello

I have PolyArthritis and SLE (a form of Lupus) and in one of my books by Daniel J Wallace there is a short chapter re Fibro.
He says that moist heat, gentle massage and coolant sprays then muscle stretching can be used.
Every so often an injection of a local anesthetic (without or with a local steriod) could be used at the trigger point of pain. Electronic acupuncture eg TENS units may be helpful.
NSAIDS can modestly help. Muscle relaxants ie Skelaxin, Parafon and Soma can sometimes help for a few hours. Tricyclic antidepressants promote restful sleep, relax muscles, raise pain thresholds and minimize reactive depression.
There are alot more meds mentioned therefore let me know if you wish the list of them to ask and discuss them with your doctor.

Unhappily, I have to agree with frog, I don't think there is anything out there for it. Massage and exercise are recommended, gentle stretching etc can help a little. One of my past mums (I am a private tutor, known lots of mums!) had it, and I remember her telling me that there wasn't anything to really help. She was on a nerve blocker I think - possibly pregablin (not right, can't remember it's name, sorry) but that didn't help much. Sorry, nansue. :(
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi Sue,

I think Toni is right and really you might find Lycra (pregabalin) or gabapentin good for fibro as well as either slow or ordinary tramadol and something to help you sleep. I have trigger jabs into some muscles as well but its a bit of a grey area if I have fibro only that I didn't want telling.

Really hope you find something and I wonder hat have they got you on? Cris x

Ive been recently diagnosed just like yourself and they didn't really give me much for it other than offering me a course of physio to help with gentle exercises to keep my muscles working.

They did offer me some Amitriptyline to take before i go to bed. I did a bit of investigation on here and it seemed the best time to take it was a couple of hours before i go to bed.

I was told to take one tablet and see how i get on and then move up to two before bedtime. I take one at 8pm and seem to start getting tired around 10 and Im finding i sleep through to about 3-4 am so Im upping to two tablets tonight to see if it lasts just a little bit longer.

Maybe you could ask your GP about them?
