Inflammation in other areas? (not just joints)

I was wondering if arthritis can cause inflammation in areas other than the joints?
I'm having bladder/kidney trouble at the moment and I don't know if it's related to the moderate flare I'm having. I saw the nurse practitioner yesterday and she said there was protein in my urine but no signs of infection and it could be down to inflammation. She said make an appointment with my GP but there is a 3-4 week wait to see her.
Basically when I have a flare I have trouble peeing. The flow or urine is slow, I feel like I need to go all the time but I can't pee very much. I had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago and the doctor said that I wasn't emptying my bladder properly.
Does anyone else have trouble like this when their arthritis is flaring?

Hi
I dont get this but thought i'd bump it for someone else to have a go at answering.
The only other area i get inflammation is in my glands and stomach. Hope someone else comes along and aanswers your query.0 -
Hi Clair, If your practice nurse has just tested the sample in the surgery I would advise you to take another sample in and ask for it to be sent away to the lab, I have had samples show no infection in the surgery test, but once sent to the lab infection has been found and antibiotics prescribed. When I was first diagnosed with RA I had exactly the same symptoms as you and I was told it was just inflamation. Four months later with continued symptoms I had another surgery test showing trace of protein, thats all and no further action was taken. I got worse and worse and ended up with a severe urinary tract infection which later infected by kidneys, it took five courses of antibiotics to clear it.
I found that only bad infections showed up at the surgery test. Because I take meds that lower my immune system I couldnt fight off the initial slight infection and it just got worse and worse. Best thing I can suggest is see the GP and ask for a sample to be sent to the lab. Lizzie0 -
I was talking to my mum earlier, and I asked her to remind me about what she was told when she had a bladder infection. It was this: the female urethra has a kink in it, which can stop the bladder being fully emptied. Wee, no matter how difficult, then stand and sit again: this can briefly straighten the kink, there may well be another little trickle, and that stops any further storage of urine, which can only help matters.
I don't think it was a case of no-one 'having a go' at answering, bailey, it's probably more a case of 'This hasn't happened to me, I can't help.' I have no idea if inflammation can cause these problems, I am not a doc!
I wish you well, clairc, I think you may well need to speak to your GP - could this be related to your gynae problems? DD
Having posted this I saw the previous answer, which wasn't there when I began - sorry clairc!Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
sorry, didn mean to offend just meant i was going to bump it up for people to have a go at answering, not meant in anyway to offend.

My gallbladder ruptured and peritonitis started...........no explanation other than inflammation..I was seriously ill!
But don't worry apparently it is very very rare...happened to Andy Warhole too!.......must be us arty types!
Prone to water infections ...thats a recent thing.0 -
What Lizzie and DreamDaisy say makes total sense to me as I have been caught out with a couple of urine infections since starting all my medicines and GP advised me just like DD's Mum about peeing, standing up, sit down and pee again.
Good old antibiotics cleared it up in a jiffy0 -
Thanks for the replies. They did send the sample off to the lab for testing so if it does show signs of infection then they are going to phone and tell me.
I should be going to see my GP soon anyway about the letter I got from Norwich today so I'll have a chat with the doc about it all then.
Thanks again!

 Hi reading your symptoms i have had a very similar probs which got worse over the last year, i have chronich retention or sometimes called Atonic bladder , after seeing uroligist and severral tests i now have to use a catherter 5 times a day called ISC.
Arthur makes it difficult as you can imagine, but it is not realated to Artur but stemes from the Stroke i had. So you need to see a uroligist asap i would say.0
