injection at gps

why do some gps do injections for frozen shoulders when other gps refer to hospital, whats the differnce?

    Oh good question oneday :D

    I had a Gp, where I lived years ago, who was quite happy and confident at doing steroid joint injections.... but the GPs at my current practice wouldn't even consider it!

    don't know if it's to do with extra training, confidence or new guidelines. :wink: but maybe someone else'll know.!

    If you can get it done under ultrasound they can get it in exactly the right place. Worked for me when the first one didn't.

    Hi, I had an injection into my hip for bursitis and one of the practise doctors did it. My GP wouldn't as she said she wasn't the best at it but the other doctor had been trained and she did all the joint steriod injections for the practice.

    She was very good, it didn't hurt too much, she numbed it first and then gave the big injection. It worked really well, I had to rest for 48 hours, to keep the stuff from moving and she warned me it would get worse, which it did. Then slowly in the third week it died away!
