Colder weather

Are you guys suffering the colder weather as well? I was doing so well this summer and arranged to go back to work part time and now the weather has turned I'm starting to regret it.
The constant fatigue more than anything is getting me down. I can feel my mood dropping and I feel disappointed after having such a good summer. I'm considering going back onto lofepramine (antidepressants) for the winter. I don't think it's SAD but more arthur is harder to deal with in the winter. Does anyone else feel this way?
I hope you're all keeping warm.

I hate the Winter, shorter days, freezing cold, grey and gloomy ... I tend to tense up in the cold and that makes my joints worse. I dread snow/ice etc I try wearing lots of layers ... my joints are definitely worse in the winter. It makes me feel lethargic too, wish I could hibernate!!
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Yup........been feeling worse this last week or so, always find it much harder in the cold weather. Have had to up the painkillers and don't like doing this.
No doubt Spring will eventually arrive..........but 5 months is a long time to wait!

Yes it is such a gloomy time of year.
Going to work in the dark.
Comming home in the dark.
Better dig the thermals out.
Also scarfs out.
It is such a dull and cold day today don't mind when the suns out don't think it will show itself in Suffolk today

Hi,
Just had to join this topic if only to be different. I just love the darker nights and the colder weather. If only because it gives me an excuse to sit by the fire without feeling guilty about the jobs I should be doing. Personally I don't find that the hot or cold makes a great deal of difference. The change (of pressure?) in weather does increase the pain level but not the final temerature. I'm making about as much sense as the weather forecaster. On a nice note, when we had the extension built recently we decided to have a wood burning stove. What a lovely heat this gives. It is a gentle warmth that seems to get right to the bone and is far better than gas or the central heating. On the minus side the wood has to be cut and carried in which is not for everyone. Also the stove can eat wood as fast as I can eat choccy bics.

Hi, Well, I did have a really bad neck yeserday and I'd been out the day before and the weather was very cold and damp! Its the same today, I also think its harder to get going this weather. This morning I had to really make myself get up, it was so dark and yuky . Still, maybe the week-end will be better! Some hope. Love Sue0

Speedy, I love the idea of hibernation.
Al, It's good to hear that someone isn't badly affected by the cold weather. I agree that the air pressure does seem to have a lot to do with it, also the damp affects me more than the absolute temp.
The lack of daylight really seems to bother me. I've got one of those sunrise lamps for the morning but usually Meg wakes me up abruptly before the lamp does!!
I think I'm going to treat myself to a new hot water bottle as I've lost the cover on mine! :roll:0 -
Hi Cathy
not sure it makes my health that much worse, but i do believe it dampens my spirits.
I have taken st john's wort in the past for SAD, but don't know now if it's ok - at least if it's prescribed meds you are considering you know it is ok with everything else
Hug for you
Love

yes I too am feeling rotten. I had a good day yesterday (for once) so went a bit mad and did a few hours of decorating and am so paying for it today. Feel like some horrible person has strapped me in to a concrete suit! in general since the weather changed though I have felt increasingly sore and miserable - even cried taking my daughter to school - I usually find the 1/2 hour walk a struggle pushing the buggy too but today I found it so tiring I had to stop and have a little blub - silly article that I am. However I too love the cold and frosty days and even the snow when I dont have to go out in it! bring on the winter just get lost arthritis!!!! x0

Oh Spacy
I am so so sorry you felt so bad you needed to blub
Wail away
I think it does you good.
Now have a nice afternoon before the school walk and treat yourself - daytime TV or a cuppa and some chocolate?

Yep.....I'm much worse in the colder wetter weather and when the frost comes I'll be terrified to go out incase I slip after 1 THR , one due and treatment to my back due.
I hate the early dark nights as well....so depressing

Luckily I don't see a difference with my aches and pains relevant to the weather.
I love Autumn and Winter just like I love ALL the seasons - they all have their up sides
Autumn and Winter means I can cover up my lumps and bumps, go crazy with furry hot water bottles and ridiculous slippers and I nearly hyperventilate at all the new stock pyjamas!! Too exciting! ..... must remember to get a life haha
Keep smiling Carol0 -
Carol, you make me smile. I know what you mean about new pjs. They're my best friends in the winter and I always but everyone new ones for xmas eve! I was sporting a pair of pjs with penguins on just last night. My OH doesn't approve though and believes that pjs should be banned. I told him that if he could cure arthur then I'd happily stop wearing them!!0

I have been ultra tired this week and come out in spots, dry skin etc. It has been a sudden change of weather I think.
I try not get depressed(although I am aware that you can't always control these things) just feel a bit deflated.

I'm certainly feeling more down now. I've just been in a minor car incident! Car is ok, Meg is ok, my neck is now more painful than before. I'm just grateful it wasn't a lot worse.
Now where are my penguin pjs and hot water bottle?0 -
