Hi Everyone :D

I'm on the waiting list for a THR and had my pre-op appointment five weeks ago.... but still no sign of a date  starting to feel very frustrated.

I have managed to keep working up till now, but as I am on my feet all day I have had to admit defeat and start being kind to my body..I really don't have a choice as I can barely move now, even with my trusty stick

I did have a call from the hospital telling me that my consultant has a very long waiting list....not what they told me before..and asked if I would be willing to go to an alternative hospital... I said yes :D but it will be a different consultant too...hey ho

just had to get it off my chest....stressed with it all

Beo

Hi Beo - are the hospital the ones doing the phoning or are you phoning them? Sometimes it helps if you are the one ringing them up to find out when your op will be. They are more likely to choose you then, if a cancellation comes up for example. Also worth going to see and saying how difficult you are finding life and work now .. and getting them to contact the hospital on your behalf. If you are willing to go elsewhere then that could speed things up - but just check out the new doc first - Elna did give info on how to do this online, once I'm sure.

I remember the waiting for my op and it gets harder and harder and the pain gets worse and worse.

I do hope you hear soon.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi beo

how frustrating ...not say painful... this waiting is for you.

As speedy suggests keep phoning until you get some answers!

Does it mean having to have the MRSA swabs done again?

I was told I would have to have these swabs repeated as my pre-op was more than 3 weeks before I had my TWR op. :?

    hope you hear something soon!

    Thanks speedy and dorcas,

yes it was the hospital who phoned me :D

apparently the other hospital they are offering, are picky as to who they accept...they are getting all my x-rays and notes together and sending them across so for the moment I must be patient. If they don't accept me then I return to original list....hopefully not at the bottom :? I must find out.

Just feel so stressed at the moment and no work to take my mind off things....not used to it but trying to enjoy.

hope you're both keeping well...thanks for taking the time to reply

    Hi Beo,

Can't see how they could put you to the bottom of the list

what ever happened to the NHS time-scales 'guarantee' for having the op?

I will be holding my breath with you now; waiting to hear if that second hospital accept you on the surgeon's List... I do hope so.

Fingers crossed Beo. keep in touch with us please?

Hi, This does seem mad as the whole point of a pre-op is that it prepares you for the operation and saves time when in hospital. This much delay and the tests done could be incorrect. I remember some time back being offered an alternative hospital to have a cyst removed. One hospital on the list was an expensive private one and the other two were about an hours drive away. Of course they picked the furthest one. However we made a day out of it, had a nice lunch and found the hospital. A small one in a small town. Nurse called my name and then told my wife to come too as she could have a cup of tea while my op was done. Five mins later she came and introduced Mr X ( I cant remember his name) the surgeon. The job was done with no problems and I was delighted with the whole way things had been handled. The sequel is that a short time later I was working with some men from the town and complemented their hospital. I was told I was "bloody lucky to get out of there alive". Glad I met them after the op not before. Good luck and hope they call you soon. Al

    Hi
This must be very frustrating ....and 5 weeks ago you had your pre op....that seems silly.....I thought pre ops were done when you had a date...anything could change by the time you get a date....I take it they wanted a list of medication you are on etc ...well who's to say it wount be different when you go for your op.
I think my pre op assesment for my THR was about 10 days before the date.
I'm now patientl;y ...or should I say impatiently waiting for an appt to see a back specialist before getting the 2nd THR!!!

    Hi Beo
I really hope you get a date for your op at either hospital, if you are happy with either, asap. However, when I had my pre op for THR I was told it lasted for 12 weeks but I got my date a lot earlier at 6 weeks.
It is hard waiting , whe n you know the op is round the corner and you are in pain. I hope you are not waitng much longer .

    Hi Beo,

I'm not surprised your getting stressed and really hope you hear something soon. I was also told the mrsa swab thing lasts 3 months ad the pre-op I had only 3 weeks so I think its another thing that they vary depending who and where you are seen. I also so hope you don't have to wait much longer. Cris x

    Hi guys

many thanks for all your replies and good wishes.....I must admit that my spirits are definitely on the decline at the moment....I feel tense, anxious and worried all the time, not my usual self at all :(

will work on bucking myself up today... my routine of getting up and going to work no longer applies, so I think that is having an affect too.

on a more cheerful note I have done loads of Christmas shopping online....want to be ready, just in case :D

hope you are all relatively pain free :D

thanks everyone for your kind words :D

I think the problem is that I thought it would be very soon, and then when she said it was a long list I just had the stuffing knocked out of me...silly I know. I didn't really want to go sick till I had a date but had no choice in the end..... at least my bosses have been understanding :D

I know that once I get my head around it I will be ok but just needed to talk to you all and let it out......thanks for listening

    Keep in touch Beo

at least you know you can come on to the forum where people care about what's happening to you........ and want to listen, support and advise, if we can.

It's hard not to have the routine and buzz of going to work and you're bound to feel time hanging heavy while you wait for the hospital to get back in touch. I hope it won't be too long before you hear back about your op date.
I'm glad though that at least you have such understanding employers.

let us know how you are....

    Iris xx

ps. Tricia.....good luck with your pre-op on Tuesday :D and I hope the op date doesn't change again.

keep your chin up.... and please post on the forum if you want to chat with us about how you're feeling too.
