Well true to my word yesterday I started chasing up this referral.
Firstly rang the orthopaedic consultants secretary {THR} she said the referral had gone off 3 weeks ago. I asked for the number of the consultants secretary that I was being referred to. Its a different hospital authority.
Got her number and rang her.....They havent received anything.....3 weeks on!!!!!!!! She was very nice {keep on the right side of the consultants secretary LOL} She said the consultant was going on holiday on Wed for 2 weeks and if I could get the orthos sec to fax the letter to her she would make sure he saw it before he went.
So thats how things stand at the minute.
Just shows you need to be proactive.....another 3 weeks on I could still be waiting for an appointment!!!!

Love
Hileena

Well done for chasing Hileena! Just goes to show, as you say, that you have to keep on top of it doesn't it?

Good luck with continuing to chase.

They outlawed fox hunting - how long before they outlaw consultant chasing? I am glad you have started the pursuit, it is a pain and it shouldn't be necessary but it is both. Good for you, keep on the scent! DD

    Hi
Well I got as far as asking her to fax the letter...the back spe secretary said she would ring me when she received it....if i dont hear from her by tomorrow i'll be on the phone again.
If I had a rough idea how long I would settle and accept it even if it was ages but its the not knowing that bugs me

Good for you Hileena, hot on the case!! Like you say though - if you weren't chasing it up, you could have been hanging around for ever.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi
    Update on this post.
Didnt hear from his secretary yesterday about the fax so thought I would chase it up this morning.
All I could get was her answermail saying she was on annual leave.
I chased around the hospital and eventually got someone to answer my question.......The secretaryt is back this afternoon....I asked was she in yesterday? Yes.......{and back this afternoon...weird annual leave!!!!!} Anyway I asked this person would they check if the fax had come through....it has and was in the consultants intray and she said I put it on his desk so he will see it....Dont think I can do much more......not sure when he's going on holiday....think his secretary said Wed???
So thats it for a while I think

Hi Hileena, no harm in ringing the secretary this afternoon once she has returned from annual leave(!!) on the pretext of updating her - but really to remind her of her promise to get the consultant to look at the fax before he goes on his hols.

    Speedy

PS maybe she had an appointment and had to take half a day annual leave to go to it?

    Hi hileena

Sorry you are having so much trouble trying to catch the consultant about your referal. This must be so frustrating for you. And now he has gone on holiday.

Mark it on your calendar and chase him up as soon as he comes home.

Sending hugs to you(((())))) don't really know what else to say.

    Thinking of you

    Hi
Well latest update on this.....I got a telephone call today from the back specialists secretary who said she had received the fax and left it on his desk...{he's now on holiday for a week} when she went to check it it said he wanted to see me sometime in December.
I said Oh!! :( ...to which she said...thats quick....I suppose it is really considering they didnt get it originally....anyway she said she would run it down to appointments and try and get them to make one as early as poss in Dec ...so thats where I'm up to now

Hi Hileena, does sound awhile away ... but if it is beginning of Dec, then it is just a month. Keep up the pressure - you might get a cancellation.
