My complaint to physio manager

Hello, I've just returned from the OT, who is part of the team with the nasty physio.

I don't know if someone else had said something, one of the other two working in the same room, or another patient complained, but when I walked in she asked me how I was and if any other pains or problems had occured since she had last seen me. This was just the opening I needed to tell her about my experience with the other guy.
She listened and asked me questions after first telling me that she would be stopping me to ask question and typing onto the computer as we went along if I didn't mind. I told her everything, from the manner of talking to me and blaming me for doing to little and causing the problem, to the reading out of my notes and commenting on them in a public place. I told her all about the extra pain I'd had and the difficulty this had caused me. Anyway, she wrote it all down and said she would talk to the manager in as soon as she could. The manager has just rang me, discussed it all with me and said that he'd treated me in an unprofessional way and that she would speak to him as he often comes across to people as arrogent and he must learn to communicte with respect although she said he is a good physio :x . I have an appointment to see the senior physio, in the team on Thursday. She applogised and was very understanding. My appointment is at another local health centre. I feel a lot better now! :D
Love Sue

    Oh Sue!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Well done you :D

You have just done yourself a good turn, but hopefully saved a lot of others from suffering at the end of his nasty tongue too.

I hope you are proud of yourself?

I also hope you had your hands done too?

    Love

    Toni xx

Well done, woodbon. It is never easy to take up the cudgels on something like this but sometimes one just has to, and you have and it was all fine, yes? I think you were absolutely in the right to report him, I doubt you are the first but hopefully you will be one of the last as this young lad should really be mending his ways, by the sound of things. I hope your neck is feeling more comfortable today, and that you have exercises that you can do which don't hurt. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi Sue :D

I'm so glad to hear that this guy is going to be spoken to... he should be apologising to you for the way he made you feel and for the breach of confidentiality Issue. :!: sounds as though the manager is well aware of his 'arrogant' attitude and should be doing something about it!

At least you can put this behind you now. Hope your appointment with the the Senior Physio on Thursday goes well and that you get the advice and support you were looking for.
good on you Sue for standing up for yourself! we've enough to deal with without idiots posing as professionals making our lives miserable!

Well done Sue! You should feel vindicated as it's obvious this isn't the first time he's done that.

    Hi Sue
I am glad you have spoken to the manager about the disgraceful way you have been treated, I know she said he is a good physio but he cant be that good if he doesnt understand the disease that he is treating, when you go to get treatment from these people you are told that you cannot abuse them verbally or physicaly, but it doesnt seem to work the other way around they can abuse us and seem to get away with it most of the time.
I think its about time we all started to stick up for ourselves a bit more with the medical profession, well some of them anyway.

    Hi Sue,

Well done flower! Glad your off to a different place as well but I wouldn't let it lie there./.....If he has a history of dong this then he needs stopping and I honestly think you should talk to Pals and make it official so he understands he can't do this! Its wrong and they will not stop him like this......

    Better than nothing though....

It must have taken it out of you to be honest like that and I am so sorry you have been in this position cus it isn't nice but I think if you can you should run with it really.... Luv and a ((( ))) Cris xx

    Sue

Well done for tackling this head on and being gutsy to go through with this. I am glad that your complaint was taken down, documented and others have commented on this person's attitude also.
What concerns me however is why is this person allowed to keep working when people skills are clearly not an atribute he possess to do his job professionally? Nobody has the right to put anyone down and make them feel the way you did, it was in effect bullying and not onlly arrogant but disrespectful. He should at least be on a last/final warning....

    Good on ya

    Great to hear Sue,
hope it encourages others to expect an understanding and dignified service which advises rather than lectures!
And if not report it!

Well done glad you feel better.

    HI Sue & well done!

it might be worth asking for a copy of what the OT today typed out ..... as a record for yourself of what was said & agreed.

I do think that if they know he is like that, then they should be offering him training to sort this out, or at least better supervision!

good luck on THursday with the other physio, and don't be afraid to keep asking as much as you want to - you are thier customer!!!

Hi. Well done but I disagree with the person you were talking to- he cannot be a good physio, part of physio is surely people's mental health as well as their physical health.
Still think he's in the wrong job :!:

I'm sure you have prevented him from abusing someone else.
    good luck with future treatment.

Hello, Well I could'nt have done it without you, all the encouragement and support mean more than I can say. I just felt that I had to do something, I had no intention of going back and seeing him again but I wanted to give a reason, not just disappear and not bother, tempting as that is! The Manager promised me that she would speak to him at as soon as she sees him again and if he had been there, she would have asked him to appologise.

Anyway, I am having an hours assesment with the senior girl on Thursday at 2.30 and I've spoken to her on the phone to arrange it, which was better than just being told. I really do believe that everyone on here who has supported me and my long suffering husband, should take part of the credit for giving me the confidence to complain, even though I knew it was right for everyone including him, in the long run.
So, my greteful thanks and love, Sue xxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Well done you, Sue.

    A complaint had to made.

I'm pleased you have another physio assessment on Thurs, somewhere else with someone different who is going to spend time with you.

Looking forward to hearing a more favourable report.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Sue,

Well that is a result. It looks as if things will have to change now. I do hope Thursday is a far better experience for you. I’m sure it will be. Just a pity that it was not sorted out when they received the first complaint about him.

    Sue

Well done for speakng up for yourself. maybe they have had other complaints so asking everyone..

So many people won't say as they don't want to be named.

We had someone like that last year when the Pre admission doctor was late. This lady really moaned about it. No one else would.

There was a room packed with people. The nurse was really nice and started to hand out forms to fill in.

Only the two of us would yet the others had been moaning and groaning. the clinic was running 3 hours late in the end.

    Well done Sue

    Hi

Glad you've got things sorted out. The last thing you want when you're in pain is someone who is arrogant and rude.

He did act unprofressionally and undermined you. You did the right thing by complaining.
