EMG test

Well that was a total waste of flippin time, goes all the way up to the Radclif hospital for a private EMG test on my lower legs and it came back showing F all, I was also expecting much more than a couple of shocks by me feet then a couple up by my knees, only was to discribe it is it was like having an electric fence shock pass through you, didn't hurt much just made me jump about a bit didn't seem very scientific if you ask me?, I have read on the web that this type of test is inacurate and not very useful unless you have quite severe problems which I don't think I have, all I know is the whole thing kicked off after the double knee OP so I am sure it's some how related to that and I told the chap that but I feel he thought I was either slightly potty or making it up that wouldn't be the flippin first time thats for sure!.
So the question is what now?, as far as I can see this is going no where and it's really starting to piss me off, I have had about a gut full of hospitals that's for sure. :x

If I were you i would get an appt with your GP to discuss the outcome of all the tests and then see what he suggests.
Feels like you aren't going to get to the bottom of it in the near future which is awful when you are experiencing reall pain :x
Maybe you need a rest from hospitals for a while? Is that how you feel?
What you must NOT feel is that anyone thinks you are making it up....
I think i am a bit annoyed about it all on your behalf

Hi Mell
I am so sorry you are know nearer, like Toni say have a word with your GP, tell him you know what you what kind of pain you have, can this test be repeated.
There is nothing worse then feeling like you are banging your head in a wall.
Dont give up Mell we are all behind you.

Hi mel
I would go back to your gp and tell him again the problem you have and where you think it is coming from. Ask if you can have a different test if there is one.
I can understand your frustration of not getting any answers.
I had the same problem being passed from one hosp to another about my stump. eventually i had an op as you will have read.
Hope you get help soon

It's not in your head, mellman, you are not inventing stuff. It's real pain and you can feel it - trouble is finding the point of origin. Could they really tell you the results there and then? That must be a first - I cannot recall ever being told the outcome of something straight off like that. It has to be a nerve-related problem, I think, from everything that you have said. I have not yet had any tests like this so I can't help but I am certain you are not inventing this stuff. You are in trouble, we just don't know what, yet. The answer is out there somewhere. Hi, I'm sorry that you didn't feel satisfied with the test, have you discussed it with the doctor who sent you? I had that test on my wrists and arms last year and it showed up carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrists, one of which as been helped by a small op. and a problem in my elbow and neck. It shows the speed of the nerve reaction to the shock, mine didn't hurt too much! If you'r not satisfied and you went to a private doctor, can you go back to discuss it with them? love sue0

Hi all well now it's Thursday and I have the old mid week feeling in my knees shins toes etc, it's not painful but it's a waring sign, this is how it always starts, it's knee op/OA related but they say there isn't anything obviuos but it's real alright, never had this problem before I had the OP that's for sure, so it looks like my weekend could well be written off again due to this repeating cycle, thanks for all your support but I guess I'm just out of diagnostic luck!.
It does my head in really didn't sleep well last night so feel like a chewed piece of string right now and am just longing for my bed and it's only 10,22am!.
Hye one last thing!, how in hell can I post this message and then come back to edit it when the site is down?, I tried at first to log in as normal and got the message saying the site was down then went off on the web and came in via another route ie a link and got on here and replied without even logging in how strange is that!!.0 -
I am here too mell and wondering if in fact we are NOt here but in a parallel universe
I have no idea hwo long it will last.
I am sorry those knees are off again....
Don't write off the weeknd though...Get mates over to yours???
Incidentally - did you ever get any bloods done?
Love

It's a weird world today - I have had no trouble logging on either. Perhaps we are in a parallel world! Ask for bloods mell, I am wondering whether you have an RA type of thing going on too - now there's a cheerful thought! Your symptoms - the tiredness etc - do sound RA-ish to me. Keep battling, mell, until someone listens. It's wrong that we have to fight so hard but someitmes it is the only option. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi mel!
sorry your visit to the neuro department hasn't given you any insight into what's troubling your legs. :? maybe as DD said it's a combination of arther's? but I would have though that your docs would be considering that.
Nothing else for it but to keep on at the doc until you get some answers.

Hi Iris and all, well I had an interesting conversation with a chap at work who has OA in both hips, just diagnoised, he gets the same feelings like me but down his thighs so I am not alone after all!.0

Hi is that the Radcliffe in Oxford? I used to live near it and my niece has a neuro condition. They are usually very good, its one of the top places in the country. I'd see if they have sent a report to your GP. Its not good enough!0

At last mell, a kindred spirit! Did he have any good ideas about you and what you can do to be taken seriously? You will have to keep battling mell, it's the only way sometimes to be noticed. Irksome, I know. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

That is so good that you have at least found someone else who knows and understands what you are suffering :!:
as DD said might be useful to find out how that guy was tested for the nerve sensation problems :?:
when does your doc get the written report from the neuro guy?,,, might be worth making a double appointment to discuss it thoroughly :?:
wish I had some bright ideas ..will keep thinking about it.

Hi all well DD the chap in question is slightly chicken oriental his idea of dealing with it is to go out and do a 30 to 40 mile moutain bike ride, no point in telling him that's probably what caused it in the first place as he argues with you rather than listen, he even told me the surgeons advice to me was totally wrong, I tend to just agree with him as he's hard work, on the up side he asked me about it I didn't say anything to him so it was good to know in a way, makes me wonder why they have been making me jump through hoops?.0

Mell you do need to go back, and tell them you are not happy, and worse you are still in pain.
I have nerve pain from my hips and my back, referred pain they call it.
We have so many shared and overlapping nerves, that it is quite common.
Like you say it is worse then the original pain
Good Luck
