Hi
Just popped out to local post office and got chatting in the usual queue! A lovely lady was asking if I was ok just a bit of chit chat etc, I made the mistake of mentioning I have PA. Oh dear, bless her she was a very nice lady but told me all my problems could be solved if I took glucosamine tablets?! I told her I already take meds for my PA, she then continued 'you don't want to be taking that rubbish, it does u more harm than good' then the gentleman behind me chimed in with 'you need cod liver oil tablets, they'll sort u out'.
Bless, I thanked both for their concern but it does completely baffle me when some people think they know better than my Rheumatologust! If I didn't have to the meds I wouldn't!!
There rant over hope everyone has a good day x

    Hi poppygirl
Yeah I get all this, and I have tried most of them, it does get your blood boiling when when you have to stand there and listen, but they mean well.
I just end up saying if only it was that easy.

Its the main reason me and my mum don't talk about my RA much....she always knows better and her joints are always far worse (btw she doesn't have arthritis  ) but whatever she decides this month is a miracle cure is obviously what I must be doing.
She's not seen much of my disease over the years as we live a long way apart and she doesn't visit much and she's never been the kind of mum to help or support us when you are ill but she has sent me every quack book on the subject and is always telling me " you know that lady who lives round the corner from the post office/ shop/church etc she beat it just by following this programme " it drives me nuts.
For years I tried to properly educate her on the disease now i just try to avoid the subject as I don't think she'll ever really get it

I too get advice from other people. MIL is one , says i should have mackeral and sardines. yyyyyyyyyuuuuuuuuukkkkkkk. and eat other oily fish. I hate fish. can just eat it if its got batter on.

I always smile politly to everyone and say thankyou i must try it.

Trouble is MIL once brought me a tin. went out of date as it was in my cupboard so long. shame

They think they are helping, bless 'em. Glucosamine will work for those who don'thave much wrong, same as cod liver oil and rosehip and all the other things that people (without 'proper' arthritis) swear by. Just smile and nod and say you will try, if only someone had told you about this before, you are very grateful etc etc etc. You make their day by doing that. It is pointless trying to explain what it really is all about. DD

We all must get it, I've had them telling me to rub olive oil on my joints, and then apparently I can 'throw all my painkillers away'.. Now wouldn't that be great?? Going from about 20 tablets to a bit of chip fat on mi bones...?? lol
There's an Asian lady on the shop who is really lovely but she's always coming up with weird and wonderful ideas for me to try, I really appreciate the kind offering of help but after all these yrs I don't think bathing in donkey poo (she dint really suggest that in case you're wondering!) is going to work..

Yep with you lot on this, I got told the other day by a chap at work that "it can't be that bad you can still walk around OK, what's the problem it's only OA!", what's the point in even trying to explane how it feels!. I also get e mails from another guy showing me crap adverts and silly moronic articles giving silly advice like"how to beat arthritis by thought alone" and the such like from such paranoid scandle rags like the Daily mail or the were all doomed Daily Express.
If it were that simple then we wouldn't need atrifical bloody joints now would we, seriously where do these people come from!. :x
