Not long to wait then. :) I wish you well with it all and there are many on the forum who have had this operation and they will be there to answer any questions you may have.

    Hi Tricia,

feeling nervous is normal. Spend the time getting as organised as possible - rearrange house to make things you need easy to reach, get some easy meals in the freezer, read Mike's hospital thread etc ...

You really will be better off!! After the op all you will have to focus on is your recovery - rest, physio, more rest and let time do the rest. Once the first few days of post surgery are out of the way - you feel so much better, no more deep, agonising bone pain ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Its just the best thing ever, trust me,I have had my second in less than year,2 new hips,no pain, wonderfull, just lots of physio,a must do! Have you been asked to attend a Hip School? If you are please try to attend very informative, show you what new hip is,quite amazing! also tells you what you need and what to expect.Don't be afraid these guys know what they are doing,so much better these days.Just a tip,if your ok with this,do try and move your ankles about as soon as you come round, very good for muscles and circulation. Also when time to go home getting in car can be very difficult.I found best way, carrier bag under your bum,and slide onto back seat, lay on seat, when home just slide out,so much easier,no pressure on new hip.Of course all depends on the car you go home in.Also make sure when your in hospital, possibly the first day or 2 you will need a bed pan,do not be fobbed off with the awfull plastic things, insist on a cardboard cover. They do have them!! I really hope you will be able to get to toilet with an aid as soon as possible, but some people struggle.I do hope that you don't think I am being a bit over top,but I have had 5 ops on my hip joints in 18 months,so feel I have learnt something, and if I can help you in anyway I will.Good luck! Mirabella.
