Hello you! How lovely to hear from you, I am glad you are home. You take your time to recover - get someone else to let us know how you are doing if you cannot manage the typing! I am so pleased you looked in tho - take care, GA can take a while to shift but at least you stand a chance of getting a better night's sleep now you are home. I hope it all went well. DD

hello every one still one handed so forgive my writing etc, right went in monday evening went down tuesday did not have ga had a nerve block an injection in back of neck then had twilight sleep i woke up half way throuigh hearing surgeon discussing screws and felt him screwing them in but my anesthatist asked if i wanted more twilight so i said yes felt nothing and would highly recomend, anyway thats all i can remember, was on liquid morphine which made me sick so took dehydrocodein, my bandage got too tight so had it cut to ease it off had no plaster half slab just bandages, back home thursday then friday went up to my drs the nurse took bandages off to clean and redress to find my wrist an hand covered in hugh blisters and i mean hugh my dr came in and immediatley called our hospital and said he had never seen anything like it got to st marys on island had x rays blood tests no infections the xray is amazing he gave me a copy so will try to post it on here, had wrist rewrapped and sent home to keep my arm up to let the fluid drain back into my arm have redressed it again its slowly looking better the dr at the hospital had never seen a twr and called all sorts of drs in and is writing to my surgeon and gp to keep up with my case, my fingers are black blue and yellow and only bend a little due to the fluid, only problem is the hugh blisters yet no infection which is great, got to back to southampton to see surgeon on thursday, to see about physio

No GA? RESPECT. Anyone who can go thro any form of surgery without being completely knocked out is hugely brave! I am sorry about the blisters tho - how very unusual and I hope they clear up soon: at least you been assured that there is no infection and that has to be a good thing. I hope your Thursday appointment goes well and that your recovery continues to go well. Thanks for letting us know how you are - that must have taken some effort! Take care. DD

having no ga was'nt half as bad as i expected and would highly recomend it no after probs etc and could go home 2 days after the op, trying to find how to post my xray, as i say just the blisters to cope with maybe its a fluid build up have been told so many times to keep my arm up , can twist and slighly bend new wrist, did find out i have sleep apnea and to wear an oxygen tube most of the time, so got that to sort out, but at the moment am, doing ok, fingers crossed it stays that way xx

I am sure that, if you continue to be sensible and do as you have been told, your recovery will continue to go smoothly. It must be difficult not to be impatient with things now you have been 'fixed' but you are not quite out of the woods yet! I am sorry about the sleep apnoea (sp?) that can be quite a nasty thing as it disturbs one's sleep in a very effective manner! I hope the oxygen has helped that.

I have a fondness for GA. I had three ops in about eighteen months and the time I was out on the table was the only pain free time I have had for fourteen years. Fondness? NO, I love it! DD

was thinking of getting my toes fixed but no way had 3 ops in a year want some recovery time,
so need to get better and find some decent treatment for the other arther pain,
got nurse later to be redressed its a real horror to see the darling kids have all taken pics to show off little sods would love to show you the x ray but cannot figure how to post it on here

Oh lavenderlady, take things gently! You will set yourself back if you try to do too much too soon. You need to give your poor hand some time to recover so please go easy with the exercises. I hope that healing has begun, no infection is a good thing but those blisters sounded nasty. I wish you well. DD

    Hi Michelle,

Its always easy to over do things flower and hopefully the blistering and the swelling will soon go for you. Its such early days yet so your doing well.

Toes are much easier to fix than this, promise you that.

How long before you start the physio now? Try not to do too much with it till its all less swollen cus it might make it stay up longer. Keep us updated though if its not too hard to type? ((( ))) Cris x

I agree I had my THR with a local and did not feel bad at all.I didn't even get any twilight and heard the hammering and chiselling and I think a Black and Decker. If I had to have this again I would still choose the local 8) 8) 8)

    Hi Michelle :D

I am truly impressed that you are coping so well post op TWR without being in any sort of cast or splint. It just goes to show the different thinking the surgeons have regarding post op therapy!
I had a plaster half slab for two weeks followed by a half shell orthotic splint which I had to wear at all times other than doing physio 4 times a day.... and I thought I did well to cope with that. so I am in awe of your resilience. :!:

Your comment about the kids made me laugh! my grandson took pics and posted them on facebook as he said my arm looked like the arm of a zombie! It is a bit of a colourful sight Michelle!

I hope those blisters go down  did they say what might have caused them? was it a reaction to the anti bacterial wash? I hope that they don't prevent you getting your stitches out.

The xrays of a TWR are phenomenal aren't they! amazing to think of the that impressive hardware being inside your wrist!

The swelling in your fingers might be helped if you can keep your wrist elevated as much as possible....always higher than heart level I was told. My family rigged up a hook on the bedroom ceiling with crepe bandaging dangling from that and attached to a sling for my hand, which meant I was trussed up like a chicken all night  .... but it did help the swelling go down. :D

please don't be hard on yourself about the swelling and exercising... you've come through a very specialised op and need time to recover!

thinking of you.... and 'wally' says hi too. :!: he's 5mths old now and doing really well

    Hi Michelle,
I am so pleased that you are back home. You are doing very well with the exercises but as others have said take your time and try and not over do things. It sounds as if the kids are keeping your sense of humour to the fore.
Good luck for Thursday and I hope the blisters ease off soon.

Morning lavenderlady, I hope all is as well with you today as it can be. Am I right in thinking your stitches are due to be taken out? That is a process I cannot stomach, another thing that reducces me to a quivering wreck! You are considerably braver than me tho, and I am sure it will go well. Take care. DD
