Morning everyone feeling a bit low today hate feeling like this. Off too hospital Friday hopefully to have plaster removed (nothing to do with arther) from right ankle, I just hope it is not gonna be to long afterwards that I will be able to use it, got the dreaded crutches but haven't ventured far on them as they start my arms and shoulders off. I feel like I'm under nearly every department at the hospital, this year has been such a struggle, still haven't got a proper diagnosis for arther, I know that it can take time. On all these meds just hope they are doing there job, woke up today feeling very nauseus never felt so sick been on mtx now for 5months added hydro to the mix 3 weeks ago don't know if thats to do with it, walked past a mirror this morning didn't reconise myself that must be the pred. Sorry to go on and on not normally like this, think I am getting apprehensive about appointment on Friday, also I am waiting to hear from the gp about a heart scan I had last week should hear by next Tuesday I can't help it but I am a worrier always have been. Thats it my rant over.

You have had a lot on your plate, joon, no wonder you are feeling a little down with it all. From what you put it isn't even guaranteed you will have the plaster removed, yes? No wonder that is on your mind. As for the rest of it well, if the drugs are doing something, no matter how small, to help matters then that is the important thing, but sometimes the impact of them is so small as to appear negligible. Nausea is a common side effect of so many of these things, if it doesn't subside perhaps an anti-emetic could be prescribed, to take the edge off matters. Being one of nature's worriers adds another strain to it all, doesn't it? A friend once gave me a set of worry dolls, little figures in a box. I think there were five: the idea behind them was simple, at bedtime tell one worry to each doll then put it in its box. The worry was voiced and then put away, leaving me free to go to sleep. Nice idea, very simple and easy. I gave them back to her, at her request. I don't fret and she found that five wasn't enough! I do a similar thing now tho - as the arthritis advances I have noticed that I am losing my confidence and feeling more unsettled, so I moan to a chunk of CDM then eat it. Much nicer. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi June,
Being in plaster for what ever reason is draining and its not too surprising your feeling a bit down.
It depends on what you had to have it in plaster for flower as to how quick you can get back on it again. I only ever had breaks and they hurt when they lose the support but soon are ok again. I hope you find its all goes smoothly sand your back on your feet.
Getting the initial diagnosis can take a while but hang in there cus I am sure they will get to the bottom of it for you. In the meantime just hang in there. DD's suggestion of chocolate I find to be the bestWill be thinking of you. Cris x

Thanx DD and Cris that chunk of choc does sound very good if only I could go out and buy some lol. 2 years ago I had a triple fusion on my right foot, was in plaster for 12 weeks then took a good few more weeks to get walking again, having the fusion made my big toe stick up so when I was walking was catching said toe so they have done something called a Jones procedure and also they have put a wedge in under my arch, when I had the stitches out the scars did not look very nice quite bloody, but I put that down to all the meds I am on.

Sounds like you have a lot to deal with at the moment. At least when the plaster is removed you will be one step (no pun intended) closer to being more mobile again.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi June,
You will get there and hopefully it will all help you.
I know feet hurt so be kind to your self fo a bit. Hey scars.... oh June... they ain't so good are they?! The guy who removed my toe was so proud of his handy work and the stump he said was so neat.... I didn't see it for 10 days and then.... Well I kinda got used to it nowThe one down my back... I reckon they did it with a shaking hand and a jig saw
The stitches were enormous and done with a skewer I think
haven't got used to that one even 20+ years later
Fingers crossed for you flower and we are up for pocket duties if you need? Cris x0 -
Morning joon, well today's the day. I hope the appointment goes well and that they can remove the plaster - am I right in thinking there was some debate about that? Anyway, if it is taken off go gently with the crutches, we don't want you upsetting anything else with over-doing things. I sincerely hope that life will be more comfortable without the plaster. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Morning DD Feeling so good today hope it lasts, trying to be positive foot and toe obviously hurts a tad. I am unable to put my boots on but have managed to get some sandals on. My whole foot is really swollen even the doctors commented on it they sent me for a xray just to make sure, I do wonder if its anything to do with the drugs we take ie mtx that it takes our bodies longer to heal. I haven't got to go back for 3 months. I have got my rheumy nurse ringing me on Wednesday to see how I am on the meds, must remember to mention that since they added hydroxy I have really suffered with a sickie feeling for about three days after mtx. I do hope your flare has eased.

You are right, being on meth does lengthen healing time: I have an insect bite on the back of my left hand which must be a good three months old now, it looks like a moon crater now! IK am glad the plaster is off, and I hope that despite the swelling you are generally more comfortable. Keep it elevated I guess, and not too much walking either! Take care. Hi JUne
sorry I'm coming in late to your thread  but glad that the plaster is off and I do hope that the swelling starts to go down.
Mtx can slow down the healing process so it's important to mention to your ortho and rheummy if you continue to have any concerns; but reassuringly it sounds as though ortho are happy with the fracture healing?
go easy now with the rehabilitation. :!:
