I have been getting prescriptions for glucosamine from my Doctor for a while now. He has now changed my prescription to something called Glusartel saying that this has been tested and approved. So why have I been getting un-approved products in the past! Anybody had a similar experience?

I tried glucosamine for some time, years before I was accurately diagnosed with PA. I can truthfully say it made no difference to my condition, which is hardly surprising given what I now know about PA, and I think there has been some debate recently about its supposed 'effectiveness'. It may be more effective for those with OA, the cause of that degenerative condition is different to RA etc. I haven't heard of your new stuff, but I hope it works for you. DD

Hi I used glucosamine, which I bought for quite a few months too, and I found no difference. I do know someone who thinks it helps her a lot. I think that recently as dd, said, their has been some new trials that show it makes very little difference.

As for giving you untried medication, I don't think its classed as a medication, but as a suppliment like cod liver oil, or something like that and the rules do not apply. If you are worried, ask your chemist or GP. My GP won't prescribe Glucosamine as she says I could buy it, but she dosn't believe that it helps! Anyway, my experience has been negative, but thats just me, others may be different. Love Sue

I am almost sure that study was talked about on TV i must admit i have gone down the path of taking them and just come off them. No difference so decided to top taking them. I am sure most GP do not prescribe them because there had been other research done that said they did not work??? i could be wrong though!!!!
