    Hi Bertyboy
Sorry that your TKR has not had the results you were hoping for and expecting. I was going to say try not to worry or get worked up about how your appointment will go , but I know how I get before these appointments! All you can do is explain how it is for you at the moment and hope your surgeon has some answers for you.
I hope that they can offer some help, maybe physio/hydrotherapy to help with strenghtening your joint.
I hope it goes well for you .

Can't give you any advice about tnr, as i havent had one but MIL had one done a couple of months ago and walks wonderfully, infact i am quite envious

So all i can do is wish you luck with your appointment and i hope they find out what is causing you this trouble.

    Take care

    Hi Bertygirl

I can see why you are feeling a little nervous about your appointment because you do not want to be fobbed off with any old excuse when you KNOW that your knee is not as it should be. Although it can take upto 18 months to be so that you no longer think about a TKR, you are well aware your knee is not how it should be post op and this has to be got across to your consultant.Even if nothing shows up in the xray he must be made to listen to you. Sometimes scarring can be the problem but if so, the consultant can try to rectify that should he choose to do so. I do hope that you are able to be firm at the appointment and not walk away feeling that your questions have not been answered in a satisfactory way.

I wish you well with your appointment,

    Luv
    Elna x

    Hi Bertyboy,
I know exactly how you feel...except with me it was THR {same difference LOL} I was worse after it was done than before it was done. My THR was beginning of Feb. I told the consultant it was worse after the op {this was at the 6 week appt} I had to see him much later Middle of Sept??? I was due the 2nd THR at beginning of Oct......I toild him it still wasnt right and he sent me for an MRI which showed a lot of problems in my back....He said that needed treating first and then the 2nd THR...So I've been referred to a back specialist and got an appt for 17th November....after that I'll know more.
Thats just my story......but the majority of people say they are so much better afterwards so just thought I would tell you I didnt

Replacement joints are presented as the absolutely perfect solution to a nasty problem, but not everything can always go to plan. It is a huge operation, recovery time is always much longer than people think (I think speedy made a similar point recently) and sometime things go wrong. I sincerely hope that that does not apply to you bertyboy, but you have been feeling 'iffy' about it for some time now, haven't you? It's little wonder that Friday seems like such a landmark day: you know that we will be with you in spirit, make a note of everything that you want to say to him and just hand him that - sometimes that has more impact on the doc than plain old speech. Let us know how you get on, if you are able. I wish you well. DD

    Hi Berty,

I think you just need to be honest and see what he has to say..... Its your replacement so some of hat you say must have some clout on it?

I know ortho work takes a very long time to really settle down and it might be that but its not gone the text book way from the beginning... I wonder if the stupid brutal physio has lengthened your recovery time?

Try not to worry flower and will be in your pockets on Friday. ((((( ))))) Cris xx

    Hi berty

    Hope you aren't going alone?

I always think back-up is helpful for not being fobbed off.

If your xrays are ok but things are not right you have to be assertive you have to be it is your chance like Elna says. Write it down so you can say it or you may regret it later at home.

    Hi bertyboy :D

Lots of really good advice already given from hippie peeps that I can't really add to :!:

Just wanted to wish you luck for Friday's appointment and let you know I'll be with you in spirit.

Remember only you know how it felt before the op so you're in the best position to judge whether the replacement has been successful, so go prepared and stand your ground.

sending you lots of positive and assertive vibes!

    Hi Berty,

thinking of you today at your appointment.

Hope you manage to get your point across - that even if your knee is structurally sound (and I hope it proves to be) that the ligaments, muscles, tendons and other soft tissues are not settling down and need some help.

Hope the ortho listens. Let us know how you get on.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Oh bertyboy, that is easily done, I did it myself a couple of weeks back, I even wrote my own details on the 'Missed Appointments' whiteboard in the waiting area - no reason why I shouldn't name and shame myself! Better luck on 9.12. I hope they can help you then. DD

Oh Berty how annoying for you, especially as you had geared yourself up. Easy mistake to make. Pity they couldn't have squeezed you in - I bet several people hadn't turned up on the 12th who should have done ...

At least 9th isn't too far away.

    Oh Berty

I've done that too in the past and know how frustrating it feels. It is a pity they couldn't just squeeze you in. :!:

Anyway, the 9th isn't too far away and we'll easily regroup and be ready to line up for more pocket duty.

    Hi Berty

Only just caught this one and was scrolling down to see how you got on. Oh dear sorry the appointment is a bit further away than you thought it was. Do hope it gives you time to gain a bit more confidence to tell it like it is and not be fobbed off. Sorry you are left feeling disappointed with the surgery as it is a the moment and hope you do get some answers. Hopefully it just needs more time. ((( )))
    take care
    Chris
