Bathtime Lament

Like many others on here I suspect, I haven't been able to get in and out of the bath for years and I sooo miss my long soaks. This morning I would have given anything for a soothing bath but, that not being an option, I wrote a little ditty instead. It doesn't scan well, and some of the "rhymes" are perhaps a bit suspect, but hey, I enjoyed writing it and I am sure many of you will share my feelings.....

*****************

Bathtime Lament

How I wish for a lovely soak in the bath
To wash my troubles away
To ease my stiff joints and sooth my mind
And set me up for the day

But if I could get in (which I certainly can’t)
I know I couldn’t get out
Been there before when all I could do
Was sit in the cooling water and shout!

Perhaps I could build a “Heath Robinson” crane
To winch me up and down
But knowing my luck, the thing would break
And I’d fall in the bath and drown

So, much as I yearn to soak in the bath
With bubbles and fragrance and steam
A shower, instead, it will have to be
Well – at least I still end up clean!

*****************
So, on that note, I probably ought to go and have that shower and get dressed, given that it's lunchtime already!

Tilly, that was good! If you do nothing else today please do this: put it on the poetry sticky on CC! I was never very good at long soaks in the bath - boredom would rapidly set in. Mr DD tho? Anything up to 2.5 hours. How? And why? Je ne comprends pas. DD

    Thanks DD and Toni.

DD - I could happily spend hours in the bath with a good book. Oh, if only....

Right, shower! Promise not to come back onto the forum til I am clean Toni!

Sorry you can no longer have baths Tilly ... but a great poem. Definitely put it on the poetry thread.

    Hi Tilly :D
I haven't 'bumped' into you on the forums for a while.... how are you doing?

I loved your poem :D:D it describes so well how those of us who can't have a bath any more because of arther feel about it!

My 'last bath' was more than 3yrs ago... and just like your poem I couldn't get out for 2hrs! (had to fosbury flop to get out)

Oh I do so miss the warmth and comfort of a bath. :( :!:

thanks Tilly... and def. put this in poetry corner.

    Hi Iris

Thanks for your post. I did chuckle at your fosbury flop description - although I bet it wasn't funny for you at the time!

Have added my little ditty to poetry corner - had a scan through and there are some lovely poems on there. I didn't even know it was there until DD told me this morning.

I'm doing fine thanks for asking Iris and I have just sent you a PM.

great poem, and one that until earlier this year I could relate to so very well.

now - I have a bathlifter, and whilst it isn't perfect, I can at least have a bath without worrying that I won't get out

    Wonky (who's off for a bath soon :D )
