I have had a trojan, which messed up windows on my laptop, so my Daughter has used my system recovery disk, since then I can not get onto the internet. My laptop usually connects via a wireless connection by the mean of a modem & a router, but my laptop cant find either & my daughters computer cant find my laptop, she is also having trouble finding the modem as well, but she can still get onto the internet. When my Daughter tries to create a new wireless network, the only option that appears is to use a usb flash drive/dongle to connect to the internet which is not what we want to do.
PLEASE HELP!

Hi Sue System recovery through your server or control panel! is a good way ....find it and reset the system to an earlier date before the problem occurred...... another point ...is the button on your laptop which allows or disallows internet connecting ..switched on? ....it looks like a stick with a sort of (Im sending you hugs sign coming out of it)
e.g. ... ((I)) ....switch it one way and try to access th net...if it doesn;t work switch it the other way and try it.
If that doesn't work it may be the weather conditions affecting yous provider!
Good Luck Hope this all makes sense!0 -

You peeps really are better than you think on computers sometimes. I would have suggested the same, using System Restore.
However, it sounds like you need an anti-virus installed. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ and download & install the freebie from there. Or google 'freeware antivirus' for any other free AVs that are available online, of course. You should have Real Time Protection turned on which stops viruses/trojans running and automatically quarantines them.
Also go to Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and create a new Restore Point. Give it a title such as WorkingOK and that will create a point that you can reset the computer programs to if you have problems at a future date. If you do this 2 minute task once every week, you can go back to the last one saved and your computer is back working within about 5 mins. And it doesn't remove anything from your personal files. No need then for a complete reinstall.
