I've been having lots of trouble with this laptop's screen so bought a second hand laptop.

My problem with the 2nd laptop is that I connect to the internet (wireless) and although it states that I am connected it doesn't.

Any ideas?

Carol (who is about to launch another laptop oot the window)

    Until someone cleverer comes along....

    surely not that long

I usually get the computer to diagnose the problem for me? can you do that?

Other than that the only thing I can suggest is that your laptop is not paired with the wireless connection - the key code malarkey thingy....

Then if all else fails I ring my bro or my nephew....
not much help but glad to see you back...

there has been a thread about you on here somewhere

Check that the router is properly plugged into your telephone system, as even if you can log into the router, it then has to go through the telephone system to be online.

Also, you can find on laptops there are several programs that have to be turned on. On mine there are three that are needed to connect. Even though one says that I am connected, if another one is not ON properly, then nothing will happen. On mine there is a Wireless switch, a WiFi switch and a Network switch; one missing then no internet.

The most likely one is that Network Connections is disabled. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections and check that the Wireless Network Connector is turned on by Right clicking on the icon and then Left clicking Enable, don't click on anything if it says Disable at the top, as that means that it IS enabled and should be working OK.

Other than that it is a case of making sure that you are logged on properly and that your browser, (ie. Internet Explorer) is not in Offline mode. Check that File > Work Offline does not have a tick by it; if it does then click on Work Offline and the tick will go and IE will then be online for you to use.
