Past Appointment news + broken hand...

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to say that my second appointment with my new doc went very well...he prescribed Lyrica (pregabalin) which is helping a tad bit, maybe not as much as I'd like but a little bit is better than nothing lol
Anyways, I probably broke my hand, the 3rd metacarpal to be precise (one of the bone in between the knuckles and the wrist)
Therefore, I went to the doctor today and thought I'd mention that I'm still in pain because of arthur at the same time...her answer was "I don't care and I won't deal with these problems!" I was so shocked I didn't know what to answer. The she asked to see my hand which is swollen like a balloon. The she started pressing hard on it...no need to mention I was grimacing like crazy. She gave me a paper for an X-ray and told me to go home...since I was in real pain because of the hand (and arthur which I stopped mentionning) I asked to get something for pain ( other than Lyrica,Celebrex,Arthrotec75,Tylenol and Advil) She answered "you don't need that!" which I then answered "but it really hurts like hell!" then she told me "I'm not gonna give you anything for your hand or your "arthritis""
Now I don't know if I'm wrong but if a patient has a broken bone and they say it really hurts and that they can't just "tough it out" aren't doctors supposed to help the patient instead?
Anyways, It got me extremely pissed...I'm getting a second opinion this afternoon and depending on what the doctor tells me I'll probably file a complaint...
What do you guys think?
Thanks and sorry for the rant,
SunyHours.

How stange to read your post. I have just this minute finished a reply to the chief of the local health board about making a complaint about my husbands surgery. He's sending me the info.
Are all Doctors getting the same :?: They just do not seem to care any more
If you are in pain then surely you are entitled to some care off your Doctor.
A broken bone in the hand must be very painful as you have to use it all the time.
I hope you have better treatment at the hospital when you go for your x-ray.
Take care and good luck if you do make a complaint.0 -
Hi sunnyhours, I've been wondering how you were getting on - I am glad you found us again. I am so sorry to hear about your hand and what an unsympathetic doc - she is hardly a credit to her profession. Do Xrays cost in Canada? I guess they do unless you have something similar to our National Health Service, ie free at the point of use. To my shame I don't know if you do or not. Please get it looked at, I think you should complain to the relevant authority there about her and her attitude - it just was not good, never mind good enough. I wish you well and please let us know how you get on. How did you hurt your hand - not doing something daft, I hope! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Haha DD, it is incredibly stupid, and I must really be out of luck...I'm guessing it's an accident that happens extremely seldomly...at east for a men...
You see, I have this habit, while getting in a car, to help myself I take a grip to the frame of the car (the top), and my mom as nice as she wanted to be, closed (or slammed I should say) the door on my hand before I could take it off
I don't know, maybe it's my fault for the way she treated me...maybe I shouldn't of talked about the arthritis...
I kinda have the habit of being treated as a drug seeker. I'm young, I have arthritis (kinda rare in young patients and so far, I don't have any kind of proof), and the injury is extremely odd...so maybe she thought I asked a fellow junkie to smash my hand with a baseball bat or something in order for me to get devilish drugs :roll:0 -
And to answer your question we do have a "good" health system, pretty much everything is free...it has it's upside and it's downside...meaning it's far from rare to see 30 people waiting in line because they have a cough or a cold...which for me is very frustrating since when I do go to the clinic or the hospital it's because I need it...0

Aw, Sunnyhours that sounds very painful."I don't care and I won't deal with these problems!"
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Yeah sometimes I wish I could stand up to these kind of people...but I'm "too nice" if that's even possible...she just took me really off guard and I didn't know what to say anymore...
Before leaving I even asked very nicely "so you really can't help me with my pain?" to which she coldly answered "no!"
I'm getting a second opinion at the same clinic tomorrow with a doctor that I love...I think she's the only non family doctor that ever helped me, I guess it's because she's young and she doesn't label everyone as drug seekers/cares about her patients.
I mean if I'd be a doctor I would prefer giving drugs to 20 junkies rather than maybe leaving one patient in pain that really needs it without the drugs...but that's just me.0 -
Hi sunnyhours
Your post has shocked me as to how badly the doctor treated you. I had to read her reply to you twice.
I hope the doctor you next see is more sympathetic to you.
Good luck
Take care
