I am so proud of my little Town, the turn out for Remembrance Sunday was fantastic, there must have been a couple of thousand people there, including lots of children.
The march past of the old solders followed by the young ones was lovely, it restores your faith in this country.

We had a good turn out too, despite the weather. I think that people do remember, people do care and they will show that at least once a year. I am glad your town turned out too. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Barbara good on the towns folk and you, I know some of my threads might come across as anti war so to speak but I'm not totally, I am however anti government who sometimes cynically use our lads and lasses as if they are expendable assets and not human beings with families, it's OK taking the queens shilling but there should be a level of respect for them and their loved ones, as the old saying goes my life may mean nothing to you but it's the only one I have and it means everything to me.
I will always support our troops no questions, there is nothing finer than a British soldier they do the best they can in dangerous situations but sending them out without kit they need as they have in Iraq and Afghanistan isn't good enough these day's, MP's make sure they get paid and never want for anything so those that defend us should also be treated in such a manor, I still remember the Ghurka fiasco, any person from another country who is willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with our troops should get automatic citizen ship and not deported as was the case with some of them when they returned from the wars Blair started, Joanna Lymley was right to fight for their right to live here once retired, Jesus old hook hand get citizenship and all he does is spread hate and sedition yet gets a house and all the money he needs so he doesn't need to work. he should have been deported no questions, it's pathetic really pathetic.0 -
Hi DD , Val and Nell
DD It good to see the young people there, remembering our solders, Val my dad would never take us when we little, I have since found out he didnt want us to see him get upset, he was lucky to come home from the second world war.
Mell I agree with most of what you say, I am so against war, we and others have lost so many solders, and what has it achieved , one old soldiers at the cenotaph was saying when will this ever stop.

Sounds as though you were right to be proud there Barbara.
It makes me well-up to think of it all.

What galls me very deeply is that although it wasn’t shown on any news but a group of lets just call them religious protester were actually at the cenotaph while the memorial was going on and they were shouting and anti forces insults and they also burnt poppies, what annoys me is we are meant to just expected to let them carry on pulling stunts like that, I for one find it an almost indescribably insult to those poor souls who gave their lives for their freedom, and what do they do with it preach sedition and hatred, one of these days people here will say enough is enough, legally sedition is still carries the death penalty it’s about time the government used the laws that it has at it’s disposal to stop them ever doing it again instead of protecting them as it seems keen on doing at the moment.
I really wonder what my dear old departed gramps would say if he were still here, he survived Dunkirk and went on to be a desert rat, I don’t think he would be to impressed that’s for sure. :x0
