Hi all I had a appointment last week and my esr level was 74, I am going to start on Humira in the next month, as all other treatments have failed through either bad re-actions, or not working. I am on steroids again at the moment only on a low dosage of 2.5 for the next two weeks after finishing 5mg for two weeks, have always took a higher dose, but doc thinks consultant put me on lower because they are going to start me on the humira, well i have been in so much pain with my knees being main problems, I am convincing my self this injection will change my life. what is a normal esr level, if there is one. x

Females naturally have a higher ESR than men and it can increase with age. I think normal is below 20 or 30. Obviously this is dependent on gender and age.

Since I started humira my ESR and CRP levels have been in single figures, 4 and 1 respectively. That is all the humira has done, which at some level should be pleasing but isn't. I sincerely hope that you are one for whom it proves to be life-changing. I wish you well. DD

I have been on steroids since Feb 2007: I was off all meds for a while then after enbrel tried to explode my liver. I remember the misery of that time very well indeed. I am disappointed that I am still on them, despite the frequent whacks of humira and meth (and the other junk too). I really do hope that it all works better for you - keep in touch, let us know how you get on. DD

It's definitley a high ESR. I'm sorry you haven't found a suitable treatment yet. Good luck with the humira! :)
