Hello everyone,
I have just been told I have OA but am waiting the results of blood tests . My knees are the worst effected but I also have pain in my feet wrists and shoulders.
At the moment the pain is not too bad but the awful tiredness is . I just wondered if anyone has any tips on how to cope with this tiredness ? Do you just get used to it or are there drugs that will help ?
Any tips greatly appreciated as I am really finding it difficult to lead a normal life.
Thank you K. :?

Hello, welcome to the forum. I haven't got OA so I can't help on that front but I just wanted to say hello.

Hi Katie,
Welcome to the forum. Has the dr given you any medication to help you cope with the pain? Tiredness is a common side effect of Arthur. As Hileena has said we must pace ourselves.
I do not have OA but I know some of the others use either heat or cold compresses on their joints. Others have found the V shaped pillows help a little with back and neck problems.
Hope you get your blood results soon.

Hi Katie, welcome from me too. I have OA in knees and spine, also newly diagnosed with Sero-Neg in both wrists..
Can't really help on coping with the tiredness other than as has been mentioned already, pace yourself.. Thing is, you may find that if/when you have to take the stronger painkillers some of them make you tired too, so you have to get used to trying to plan ahead..
Really hope your pain stays minimal for you..
Hope to see you around on the forum. You should pop into Vals' Cafe on the chit-chat section, have a virtual cuppa with us.

Hi Katie,
welcome to the forum from me as well.
I got oa and pa and the tiredness I am still trying to work a way round.... I don't think you can but they say listen to your body and pace your self. decent pain relief helps and once our bloods are back maybe the docs will be able to help you more?
Fingers crossed it stops its burn soon and nice to meet you. Cris x0 -
Hi katie
Just to say welcome to the forum,
I have RA so can't advise you really.
Just that arthur does make us tired and we have to rest when he says, unfortunately.
take care

Hi Katie,
I have OA in a number of joints (back, knees, hands) and wondered at first if it was all in the mind that I also get tired a lot. Glad to know it's not just me! I'm not sure if it's the constant nagging pain - even though I'm not in agony most of the time, the aches and pains are always there- or if it's to do with the actual workings of OA. Anyone out there got any idea?

HI Katie
welcome to the forums from me.
I hope you find it as helpful as I have.
you need to make sure that 'they' are aware of your tiredness as it can be relevant. The bloods will be to check for inflamatory arthritis like RA. other relevant peices of info are feeling 'poorly' raised temperature etc.
I was advised by another form user Elna to take a sleep if I could and to set my alarm if it helps.
I hope they sort you out very soon.
Love

Hi Katie and welcome.
I know what you mean about the tiredness, it's got me beat this week. I've got full body PsA and some OA. I have found that I've got used to a certain level of pain and choose to reduce my painkillers as they make me less able to function. The tiredness is something that goes with arthritis unfortunately and there are many posts on here asking for tips in dealing with it. It nearly always comes down to pacing yourself, resting when you can and asking for help (I'm not very good at that one :? ).
I'm sorry you had to find us but welcome again and I hope you find lots of useful info on here. Also, feel free to join in the banter on the chit chat forum. Take care.

Thank you Cathy and Toni,
your warm welcomes mean a lot to me.
I see the doctor again on the 9th dec when the blood and x ray results should be back .
This time when I go, I will make a list of questions to ask as my mind does tend to go blank when I am at the surgery.
I did not tell her about my tiredness but will do.
I do find it hard to pace myself,I feel like I am giving in to it when my every instinct is to fight it .As to asking for help......... well lets just say that is something I am also going to have to learn.
I have a few other health issues at the moment, high blood pressure and fibroids in the lining of my womb which could contribute to my feeling tired but I am feeling much more positive now I have so many new " friends " to talk to.
Thank you to you all, K.0 -
